Steadily, if none to sneakily since Chewie was almost as sneaky as his master, the bear cub worked his way out along the tree branch until he was perched directly above the bee hive. This gave rise to the question: how to get to the treat in the hive? The hive was like a delicious Cadbury Egg, except it was made of not food instead of chocolate. But, the hive had yummy filling to eat, just like a Cadbury Egg. So, there were some similarities. Seizing on the first idea that popped into his head, Chewie severed the hive from its connection to the tree and slowly worked his way back to the tree's main trunk. Once he was there he perched on his hind paws and used his front paws to launch the bee hive out away from the tree. The hive would hit the ground and break open, leaving delicious honey for him to devour.

    Brilliant.

"We try to be a positive influence on the rest of the players," Mack called as the ants barreled into him one at a time. This time the damage they dealt out was a bit meatier, but it was still nothing that the ginger headed axe-man couldn't safely absorb. Grunting as each of the ants locked its pincers around him in its turn, Mack slammed the haft of Invictus into each of the ant's heads dissolving them into pixelated nothingness.

  2. Having made his way up to the sixteenth floor, Mack pushed open the door to the beach house that served as the home to Zandra's alchemical. As he opened the door a tiny brown furred beast tried to race past him. In a flash, Mack secured Chewie by the scruff of the neck and lightly tossed the cub back outside. "There are plenty of things out here to find and eat. You do not need to harass Zandra, she is not a cook," the towering figured said, quickly slipping into the shop and closing the door behind him against the bear's advance. Once he was sure that Chewie wouldn't be getting in Mack began to wander through the shop, picking up several items for purchase. "What do you normally charge for your wares," Mack asked, laying out the items. "I used to use Opal for this kind of work, but I believe she's dead now. She no longer shows up on my friends list, and I never removed anyone that was one of the Knights, past or present."

  3. As he scrolled through his inventory, looking for gear that would prove suitable for Tomas, Mack spared a single glance up at the feline cosplayer when she noted she was not, in fact, a cat. "She's got ya there," the towering man rumbled, making a vague sort of all encompassing gesture in Miss Mestophales' direction with his free hand as he continued to scroll through items. "If she is a cat then she's the curviest and leggiest cat I've ever seen," the Vice Commander rumbled, tapping one item from his inventory and materializing a rapier with a serpentine motif. "Brings new meaning to the phrase chasing tail."

The ginger headed Vice Commander had just selected another item for Tomas, the Duelist's Gloves, and was scrolling through looking for some kind of decent armor for the fencer when a small terrier came racing up to the group. Instantly, Chewie was on alert. Small yapping creature. Obviously, it was something to be eaten. As soon as the dog came to a stop at Anemone's feet, Chewie pounced. The bear came rumbling around the players and tried to pounce on the dog, missed, and wound up pouncing into the feline-like woman. The cub's eyes narrowed.

    The thief.

With a growl, Chewie made a crude one-toed gesture at the cat lady with both paws and then sank his little baby bear teeth into the woman's shin. He couldn't do much damage, since the cub didn't have any kind of additional buffs. But, he made up for the lack of damage with an excess of enthusiasm. Mack eyed his familiar for a second, snagged an armored cape from his inventory for Tomas, and did nothing to stop the bear. "That's weird, what'd you do to him," Mack asked, passing the items over to Tomas.

Chewie continued to shimmy his way up the enormous tree, his chocolate brown eyes greedily fixed on the prize in the uppermost branches of the tree. That was a bee hive. Everyone knew that. Determinedly, paw over claw, the cub climbed up the tree, tongue lolling slightly out of his mouth and to one side. Bee hives had honey. Chewie liked honey and wanted to eat honey. It was as simple as that. Reaching the branch where the hive was located, the bear perched himself on the branch and began slithering out along it, eyes on the prize.

"These bugs aren't much of a challenge," Mack called to Anemone, tightening his grip on Invictus. The ants launched their assaults, one by one. It might have even been said that, since they were soldier ants, they went marching one by one to attack. Each of the gigantic ants, in turn, failed to land a solid blow on the Vice Commander. Grunting, Mack scythed the enormous axe in his hands back and forth, bringing each of the ants down to just the barest sliver of health in their health bars.

The hulking axe man waved away the thanks that Damien offered for the battle tips. The Vice Commander would have offered the tips to anyone that asked and, in truth, the words were no more than the simple and honest truth. When people rushed or got in a hurry they were considerably more likely to make mistakes. Mistakes led to missed and failed attacks, at least within the framework of the world of Aincrad and Sword Art Online. "It's just common sense," the towering soldier rumbled, rubbing his chin for a moment with his free hand as he held the giant two handed axe over his shoulder with the other. "You should have received some crafting materials from those boars. If I remember this quest correctly, that should be enough to get you through to the end of it," the Blacksmith rumbled, gesturing expansively with one huge hand back in the direction of town as the grizzly cub continued to gambol about the area, abruptly chomping his jaws closed on a butterfly which shattered into a shower of blue pixels.

As the group set off through the forest, the occasional golden ray of sunshine lancing down from the heaven's above through the leafy canopy Chewie ranged somewhat away from the group. Occasionally a flash of fur would be seen out front, sometimes the telltale snapping sound of a breaking twig or even sapling tree would be heard from another direction. Once, even, there was a colossal splash from somewhere to the right, no doubt the exuberant cub's doing. As the group came up on another clearing the grizzly looked up and his large brown eyes grew to the size of saucers. Master had led them to a honey tree, or at least a tree with a bee's nest in it. In seconds, Chewie was working on scrambling up the tree trunk.

At the sounds of the bear climbing Mack craned his head around, spotting the bear half way up a tree. Looking a little higher, the Vice Commander's grey eyes came to rest on the bee hive. Chewie was, probably, in for a rude awakening when he disturbed that thing. Oh well, the cub had to learn some time. Gazing back into the clearing the soldier's gaze swept across another grouping of giant soldier ants. Tightening his grip on Invictus, Mack went tearing across the distance as he activated the charge skill before whirling the enormous axe as if it were a prop weapon before slamming it into each of the ants in in turn and taking away roughly half of each of their health bars.

As the pink viking ship made its way out onto the lake at the head of a small flotilla of vessels Mack began to ready himself for the combat to come. His grey eyes scanned the horizon from the ship's bow, keeping a weather eye out for the boss and generally ignoring anything else that was directed at him, not noticing when Chewie came scampering aboard with a giant drumstick clutched in his teeth. The cub started looking around for a spot to hide, spotted Kimba, and made a beeline in the opposite direction. The shifty lioness had a habit of pinning the brawny bear. If she pinned him she would take his drumstick and eat it. Then Chewie would have no drumstick. Everyone knew that.

The grizzly cub when haring over to his master and slammed into the ginger man's armored legs. For a startled half second the axe man looked around until he realized that what had hit him was Chewie and that the bear was trying to resolutely wedge itself between his legs and the hull of the ship. Sighing, Mack grabbed the bear by the scruff of the neck and lifted it up to face height. "Where did you get that," he demanded, one eye watching the water and the other trying to take the drumstick away from Chewie. The cub growled and gave his master a look that said he had not stolen the food. Then Chewie made a crude one toed gesture with both of his front paws in the blacksmith's face and took a swipe at the grasping hand.

"If Ssendom wasn't already dead, I'd kill him," Mack muttered, glowering at the bear.

"If you don't want me to take that from you, or Kimba, it looks like you've only got one option," the soldier said, giving a pointed look in the direction of the ship's mast as Vale scaled her way to the top of it. The grizzly repeated the one toed gesture and scampered away for the mast as soon as Mack set him down. In a flash, the bear had shimmied to the top of the mast until he was nose to nose with Vale, the drumstick still clutched in his teeth. But, now that he was up here there was no way to hold the drumstick while he ate it while still holding onto the mast with his claws. If he took a bite, the treat would fall into the water. If he let go of the mast to hold the drumstick, then the bear would fall into the water.

Master thought he was so funny, but he wasn't.

Down below, on deck, the battle with the monster had begun. "Alright," the Vice Commander barked, his voice cutting through the din of the commencing combat. "To the rail, one at a time," the axe man snapped, taking up his position and twirling Invictus above his head before slamming the axe into the gigantic turtle. As he completed his attack he craned his head around in Vale's direction. The woman had come into his shop before to get some gear, but she had never given him her name.

"HEY! FRISKY WHISKERS! HOW DO THINGS LOOK FROM UP THERE," the Executive Officer bellowed, his voice booming across the distance loud enough to not only be heard by Vale at the top of the mast but also by every player on the other ships as well.

"See," the hulking Vice Commander asked in a booming tone that easily carried over the ambient noises being made by the boars as the creatures launched yet another futile frontal assault on the towering ginger giant of an axe man. Their tusks scraped off the bearded man's armored legs and he paid them hardly a second thought. "Patience is a virtue, especially in combat. It's all well and good to be faster than your opponent, or to be stronger, than they are. But, if you have poor technique or an incomplete knowledge of how to apply that speed and strength then you are more likely to fail," the continued as the boars launched still another fruitless attack. Of course, given what the Knight of the Blood Oath guessed his hate number was at it was hardly a shock that they were somewhat frenzied by now. "Patience and calm are always the better options, like so," he concluded and, without another word he scythed his axe through the boars and obliterated them into four showers of pixels.

"As with all things, it takes time to get into practice and to get comfortable," Mack rumbled, calling to Damien as the boars lined up one at a time and charged into him. Their porcine attacks didn't so much as stagger the ginger giant as he stood with his axe planted firmly in the ground. Even as the single points of damage ticked off his health bar from the attacks of the mobs Mack's skill in Battle Healing activated and the lost health was nearly instantaneously replaced in his health bar. "That tickles," Mack rumbled, completely ignoring the boars. "You can't rush your attacks," the Vice Commander continued, swinging Invictus into a ready position. "When you rush, you miss." The ginger giant drew the axe back for a wide sweeping attack and held it for a half second before releasing the blow in a whirlwind of motion that slammed into each of the boars in sequence. "Now, you try it."

Chewie scampered about in the small field, his jaws still locked onto the t-bone from the steak. Woe be to anyone that thought they could take the chew toy away from the bear cub. The grizzly cub ran around in circles with the treat until he tripped over his own over large paws and flopped onto his back with a soft thud in the grass. Growling he held the bone between his front paws and chomped on it greedily with flashes of teeth and claws until the bone, rather abruptly, ran out of durability points and shattered into a shower of pixels which left the bear chomping on nothing but air. Scowling, the bear rolled back to his feet and began looking around on the ground for the lost bone.

"We have a few players that are pretty big, but I think I'm the biggest of the bunch," Mack rumbled, rubbing the back of his neck with a free hand as he leaned his other arm atop the axe Invictus. "As for the fighting, I've got no problems killing system generated monsters or even dueling with other players for fun. I'd even fight another player outside of a duel, if I needed to in order to protect someone else," the towering man shrugged his massive shoulders and pulled his axe from the ground, settling it against one shoulder. "And everyone may deserve a second chance, but that doesn't mean that everyone wants one."

"Chewie," the big man barked and the bear's head shot up in his direction. "Stop crying about the bone, you ate it. If you want to stuff your face, go find a bee hive." The bear cub made a crude one toed gesture, its meaning clear, though where he had picked it was anyone's guess. Probably from Ssendom, it seemed the thing that Ssendom would have done. Probably Ssendom had taught Chewie to do such a thing by giving the cub treats every time he did it.

"I have a foul footed familiar," Mack sighed as the bear scampered off, eyes looking up into the trees for a bee hive. "Ssendom taught him that, it must have been Ssendom," the Vice Commander muttered before turning back to Anemone. "I'm ready to move out if you are."

  11. @Soredell, @Baldur, @Sey,

Mack turned his head to regard the familiar form of the long haired swordsman that had just spoken to him. "Baldur," the towering Executive Officer rumbled, as he finished passing some gear over to Soredell. "Good to be back at the front line and to see you as well. As for joining our crew, you'll have to take that up with Selina," the burly blacksmith said, indicating the diminutive commanding officer of the Icebreaker. "I'm just the Executive Officer, getting everyone squared away and all that."

"Depends, I guess," the Vice Commander said pensively, considering Soredell for a moment as Baldur passed the katana-user a potion and nodding his thanks to Baldur. "What are your ranks like in katana and curved sword and what kind of enchantments are you carrying on the weapon," the ginger giant asked, quirking an eyebrow in Soredell's direction. "Your skills and gear enhancements will determine whether or not the benefit of a shield and a curved sword outweighs the build of a two-handed weapon." While they were talking Sey had moved past the players milling about on the dock and boarded the Icebreaker.

As he was waiting on Soredell to answer the questions another player, Shield, sidled up to the group to seek a berth on the Icebreaker. "Again, you'll have to talk to Selina. My job is to keep you lot in line once we're fully crewed," the burly man rumbled, crossing his arms over his shoulders. Almost immediately thereafter Romolo and then Selina fired up and Mack fell silent to listen to the NPC's.

  13. Mack stomped into his shop and knocked the snow from his boots near the entrance. Swiping a finger in front of his face he produced a simple loaf of bread from his inventory and chucked it in the direction of Chewie's straw mat in one corner of the shop. The bear roared a challenge at the food treat and went tearing off after his breakfast. Hitting the mat like a gluten crazed demon the bear cub pounced on the bread and began to tear enormous hunks from it, scarfing them down whole with many happy chomping noises and growls. With the grizzly's interests seen to, so the little terror would be out of the way while the work was being done, Mack moved towards the forge and took up the smithing hammer to begin his daily work.

    Damien: 220/220 22/22

    Boars 1-4: 265/545 (Mit. 0, EVA 0, ACC 0, DMG 10)

"Suit yourself, but that's no way to learn," Mack rumbled in a deep tone. While the boars had a ton of health points, in part because Mack was in the field with Damien and the system recognized that the standard health values on the level one boars were not going to get the job done, beyond that they were not really all that much tougher than the normal boars that were to be found in the fields. As each of the four boars butted up against the Vice Commander with their tusks the towering man gave them a series of kicks to shove them away. The blows did nothing but shove the beasts away. "You need the practice," the Vice Commander continued, planting the haft of his weapon in the soft dirt and ignoring the boars altogether as they attacked again and missed him. "I've drawn enough hate that you should be able to attack them with no fear. Get some practice in."

  15. Mack poked his ginger head around the corner of the tent from the area where the forge was located as the rhytmic pounding of the smithing hammer momentarily ceased. Chewie, for his part, was much more enthusiastic in his greeting of @Vargas. With a rumbling growl of greeting the bear cub scampered to his feet and went tearing across the cramped space of the tent's interior. When he was close enough to Vargas, the brown monster threw himself into the air, and thudded against the back of the blonde man's legs before dropping to the ground and flopping onto his back with his mouth open and a clawed toe pointed to the now gaping maw. "I'll sell you all my vanity, uncommon, and even rare items if you want them," the Blacksmith rumbled, gesturing to the overloaded tables. "I have too much stock as it is. Knock yourself out."

  16. The barest hint of a scowl crossed Mack's bearded features for an instant at being called 'Sir' again. The towering figure was about to retort that he was not a knight when it occurred to him that such a statement was patently absurd since he was the Vice Commander of the Knights of the Blood Oath and the word "Knight" was, quite literally, right there in the title of the organization. So, in that sense at least, he was a Knight. "Just Mack will do, Anemone," the axe man said by way of greeting as a round brown fuzzy face poked out from behind one of his legs to regard Anemone, the giver to delicious steak. The bear cub rumbled a greeting and set sail in the direction of Anemone. Where once there had been steak, there could be steak again. Everyone knew that.

Before their conversation could really get going a dark cloaked form dropped down into their midst and, quickly enough, it resolved itself into a person. Apparently, the dark haired man with the beginner's iron rapier was a rather observant person, as he had accurately deduced that Mack, at least, was planning on tackling a quest of some sort. The towering Vice Commander considered the player and his equipment for a moment before speaking. "Your gear is shockingly bad for this floor," the blacksmith rumbled in a blunt tone. He had just swiped his finger in the air to pull up his player menu when another player dropped from the trees above him and emerged from the grass.

"Damned squirrels," the Vice Commander muttered, sparing a grey eyed glance from his menu to regard the scantily clad cat woman in front of him. One ginger eyebrow quirked slightly, more so when he saw the green cursor of a player as opposed to the yellow cursor of a Non-Player Character. "Morning, uh Miss Kitty," the towering man said, shrugging his shoulders and going back to his item inventory to find something suitable for Tomas. "Mack, Vice Commander of the Knights of the Blood Oath. I assume you've had all your shots," he remarked in a dry tone, still sorting through items.

  18. OOC: @Vargas and @Row, sorry for the delay in catching this. I don't check my shop often. Always best to PM after posting. Anyway, I will have a proper reply for both of you edited into this by tonight, hopefully.

'COOKIE!' Chewie jumped in the air and snapped his jaws at the cookie. The cub knew precisely what it was and he knew that he wanted it. His chocolate brown eyes darted from the cookie to the bag in @Row's hand. That was a cookie bag. A bag full of extravagent gifts of confectionary deliciousness. Everyone knew that. Especially the grizzly's nose. Sitting back on his haunches, Chewie's eyes followed the cookie greedily as the bear licked his dark lips in anticipation of the offering. This pink haired girl always had sweets. Sweets weren't as good as beef, pork, or chicken, or especially fishies which were the very best of all, but sweets were much better than just plain simple loaves of bread.

    Boars 1-4: 265/545 (Mit. 0, EVA 0, ACC 0, DMG 10) [-280 DMG]

Chewie rumbled several responses to Damien as the pair of them passed out of the main gates of the Town of Beginnings. The bear gestured grandly with one front paw in the direction of the treeline that surrounded the fields immediately around the town, while making some noises and smacking his lips in such a way as to say, 'There be honey in them thar tree! Liquid gold! Scumptious eatables! FOR ME!' For his part, the Vice Commander remained largely silent as there seemed to be little enough need for them to discuss anything, at least up until the point when four boars were spawned by the game engine, at which point the towering axe man moved to the fore.

"These boars will be geared towards me," he rumbled in a low tone to Damien. "Do not attack them until I have sufficiently drawn their hate, you may have any loot they drop though we will split any col rewards evenly between us." Without another word, or really waiting for a response, Mack charged forward and scythed the weapon through all four of the porcine beasts, reducing their health point pools by roughly half in a single attack.

  20. "Yes sir," Mack rumbled in a deep booming voice as @Selina took him on as a member of her crew and placed him in the position of Executive Officer. Though it was a naval billet, it was not all that different from being an senior enlisted soldier in the Army, at least in some ways, nor did it differ that much from his position as Vice Commander of the Knights of the Blood Oath. "And the bear belongs to me, Captain. If you toss him in the water, and I have the greatest sympathy for you if you do, I think you will find he will return like the proverbial cat but twice as hungry and twice as playful," the Vice Commander continued in a quiet rumbling tone until he was given orders by the Captain.

"@Sey," the towering man boomed in the commanding tone of someone that was used to having their orders obeyed in such situations. "Board the Icebreaker and get yourself squared away and you," the axe man continued whirling to face @Soredell. "Your gear is not up to this challenge," the blacksmith said, considering Soredell with a keen eye before pulling up his player menu. "None of the Katana's I have are better than your own weapon, but this armor is significantly beefed up, and you can make use of this shield. You will return these items to me, as they are from the Knights of the Blood Oath and not me, at the end of this event. That is, of course, unless you wish to join us at that time," he rumbled, passing the Blood Oath Breastplate and Siren's Song Tower Shield over to Soredell.

As soon as the steak appeared in Anemone's hands Chewie was immediately on his feet. The cub licked his lips and his eyes greedily followed the progress of the delectable meaty treat as his nose sniffed at the air. The cub leaped up and took a swipe with his paws, but missed and thudded back to the ground. Then he opened his mouth and waited. That steak was a treat for him, he knew it had to be for him, who else could possibly want to eat steak? Nobody, that was who. Then the steak was placed in his mouth. Heaven! Chewie flopped onto his back and began to rip into the steak, flecks of meat flying in all directions until only the t-bone was left. Clinching it in his teeth the cub ran around and, occasionally, paused to gnaw on the bone.

"Just don't give the little beast any alcohol, as you can see he's a miner," the Vice Commander remarked dryly, considering the other parts of Anemone's speech for a moment. "I could always use all kinds of support items, as could the rest of the Knights," he rumbled after a moment's thought, rooting around in the dirt with the end of Invictus' haft until he heard a thunk. Kneeling, the bulky man extracted a hunk of iron ore and added it to his inventory. "Another couple of seconds and then we can move off to find some more monsters to deal with," Mack said, resuming his leaning posture on his weapon.

  22. Giving Morgenstern up as a bad job, in terms of getting a food treat, Chewie instead surveyed the area around the docks with his chocolate eyes. That was when he saw the legendary creature as it slammed into Velnia and then took a perch on @Zandra's shoulder. Good mercy. That was the BIGGEST chicken Chewie had ever set eyes on. An economy sized chicken. Where had Zandra found such a chicken? It was more chicken than Chewie could easily imagine, and he could imagine a very large chicken.

With a flying leap and a very loud thud, the cub propelled himself off of @Morgenstern's shoulder and back to the docks. Roaring a bearish challenge, the grizzly went thundering down the docks in the direction of Zandra. Just as he had nearly made it to Zandra the cub slammed, broadside, into @Ariel - The Crowned Lion's feline familiar Kimba. He hadn't even noticed the lioness. Who would notice a lioness when there was a chicken of legendary proportions waiting to be eaten? Chewie rolled head over tail for a few feet before popping to his feet and eying Kimba. Normally, the bear liked to wrestle with the lion and, for a moment, he appeared torn on which activity he wanted to take part in. But, predictably, his stomach won out.

Standing on his hind feet he pointed one clawed toe at the eagle. Then he made some grunting noises at Kimba and pointed at the eagle again. The message was clear, if Kimba helped him get the giant chicken, the chicken of destiny, then the bear would, grudgingly, share the spoils with Kimba. Still, how were they going to reach the giant chicken? Chewie doubted that Zandra would just give it to them to eat. It looked like she was keeping the chicken as a pet. That wouldn't do.

The bear looked around and spotted @Itzal's familiar, the purple dragon. That would work. Velnia could get it. But, then he'd have to share the chicken plunder with someone else. Chewie sighed, loudly, through his nose and then made gestures at Velnia. She would knock the chicken down to him and Kimba, then they would all three eat the Chicken of Destiny. While he waited for Velnia to knock the chicken down to him, Chewie opened and closed his jaws several times, drooling just a bit, as he imagined the poultry plunder that would soon be his to devour.

  23. Chewie's head snapped around at the word materials. Materials meant the raw goodies that went into food. Everyone knew that. Ok, sometimes it meant the odd bits and bobs that master put into the things that he made at the forge. The sad, lumpy, shapeless metal things that were not food. Chewie knew the things from the forge were not food. Early on he had bitten nearly everything that was made at the forge, just in case it was food and Master was player a cruel trick. But, it never was food and now only a few rare things were ever occasionally in danger of being bitten. But, materials could also mean meat. Chewie liked meat. Materials could also mean honey. Chewie really liked honey. And if you were Magda, materials meant fishies. Fishies were the very best.

Rumbling a woofling cry, the bear cub charged down on Damien and scaled the other player until he sat perched across the swordsman's shoulders like an ugly, and furry, toddler. Rumbling a bit more, the bear made a gesture that clearly said it was time to go out and get the honey that Damien had just said, very plainly, that they were going to be getting. "Looks like the bear has decided he wants to tag along," Mack remarked dryly, shouldering his massive axe. "Alright then, let's get moving."

  24. OOC: @Takao, we hit the 1 page. I'm locking this sucker and dishing the rewards, unless you want to keep it going. If so I'll edit appropriately.

As they reached the summit of the mountain Mack came to a stop and raised his arms to rest his hands behind his head, steepling his fingers in the process. With search skills like Takao's he had little doubt that the swordsman could find the floor's boss and the labyrinth entrance. All it would take was a few minutes without him being pestered so he could concentrate. Mack reckoned he could come up with that for Takao, provided the kid's tag along sidekick could also stay silent for a few moments. The hulking red head craned his neck back and peered up at the digital clouds for a few moments, until Takao's voice cut through the moment of cloud gazing.

The Vice Commander swore softly under his breath.

"Well, nothing for it," he rumbled, dropping his hands and cracking his neck. "We'd better get a move on to get down there if we want to take part in clearing the path for the bonus experience." Then Mack flashed a wolfish grin, his teeth standing out white against the flaming ginger beard that framed his face. "We'll beat them to the next one."
