  1. Wulfrin downed the snack as he waited for the next unsuspecting boar to cross their path. He agreed that his previous knowledge was helping a bit with the instincts, but there was still a majority of it that relied on the system. "What RPG would be complete with out a random number generator?" Wulfrin chuckled. "Gotta have something to blame for the terrible luck. Won't do much good in the 'Oops boss got a crit now your brain is mush' department, but for your run of the mill stuff." Wulfrin shrugged. There was a hint of agitation. It was highly possible Wulfrin had mumbled something under his
  2. "Good eye," Wulfrin acknowledged the new found runes. The runes corresponding to a common suffix like -ing was good find as its very common. "If this one is seeking, that means this is most likely Stygian. If I'm remembering that typically refers to the area around the River Styx." He was big into various mythologies in the real world. As he continued to pick out key words and phrases, he began to feel fatigued just staring at various portions of words. The info was becoming a jumbled mess. What he wouldn't give for a pen and a pad for tracking the progress. From his best guess they were about
  3. Definitely a puzzle room. Wulfrin thought to himself. A sigh of relief escaped him. At the moment they were still safe but who knows what else awaited them after this. The doors they had left lingered in his mind. What secrets lay behind them. The first thing Wulfrin noticed was the inscription. He couldn't identify the language being used, if it was an actual language at all. Then he began to scan the rocky walls. The brighter light didn't reveal anything at a cursory glance, but he was sure there was an answer somewhere nearby. Nari affirmed what he was thinking before opening her menu
  4. "Old habits," Wulfrin shrugged finally taking note of the minimap. He still hadn't fully adapted to the contextual design of the UI. He abandoned his original plan and focused more on covering the rear of their small party, always keeping an eye out behind the duo for any unwelcomed surprises that may attempt to block their escape route. "I was already planning on focusing DPS as much as I could, but I haven't seen many level ones running around. Its kind of just been a few higher levels here and there. I guess they are still hiding out and waiting for the game to be cleared." He thought back
  5. Wulfrin accepted the gift but decided against consuming right away. Instead, Wulfrin took a deep breath moving closer to the nearby boar. He held his sword out to his right side and prepared to strike using <<Horizontal>>. Then he felt the system take over as he took a step forward and slashed horizontally across the boar's center of mass. His aim was true as he watched the HP bar of the boar drop to zero. He knew it was overkill, but Wulfrin was too focused on the rush. He had never moved that fast or with such ferocity. As the boarlet dissipated into a shower of pixels, Wulfrin c
  6. Wulfrin listened intently eager to grab as much intel as he could. The mention of the First Few Lessons questline wasn't a shocker, but he had already started those. This quest was just a short detour before his next quest in the chain. He made a mental note to track down the technical skills and weapon attack focused quests. Perhaps they could help round out his toolbelt. The way his companion faltered at the mention of a vampire quest was slightly concerning, but since it was followed with a warning to avoid it for now, he decided that was in his best interest. Wulfrin followed the play
  7. "Yes ma'am," Wulfrin replied with a nod. "Let's be honest," Wulfrin uttered a nervous chuckle. "If you're saying run, I'm probably a dead man." It actually seemed to way on him quite a bit, as a depressed expression fell across his face. He accepted the invite. The suspicions of his level were correct, almost as novice as could be. Wulfrin was still uncertain about the current intentions. He had been warned to be careful just asking people in the wilderness, as PKers were a problem. Since her cursor was green, he assumed it should be fine. Together the pair continued on their adventure towards
  8. Wulfrin had messaged Freyd to meet him at Lyle's. It took a minute to find after having made his stop at the Evening Star. He was still waiting on his gear to be ready from Knight Shift but didn't feel the need to rush the smith. as long as it was ready before they went after the Land Shark Freyd had mentioned, that was fine with him. He wandered the streets for a bit before he found the shop. Wulfrin entered the hot forging area he was directed to by Zackariah. The steady clang of a smith hard at work rang throughout the dimly lit shop's interior. Unlike Zackariah there was no kindness to thi
  9. "Later Marv!" Wulfrin waved to the guard at the gates. Being only the second time he had left a city, it felt kind of rewarding. He had info from the info broker page that there was a cave on the outer edge of the floor. "While Freyd is busy I may as well check it out that cave." This of course was after the advice he had been given to start gathering equipment. He looked less like a newbie, but it wasn't all concealed. In actuality all he had managed to round up was a crystal to help him out with searching for things and a pair of ear cuff to boost his weapon accuracy. Now it was just a waiti
  10. As Wulfrin entered the shop on floor 21 recommended to him by Freyd, he was astonished to see the forge in a full roar. The sign caught his eye saying that beginners could get their gear for free. He was looking to get prepped to actually start grinding out levels. "Hello?" Wulfirn asked trying to be heard over the sound of clanging steel. "I'm looking to get a sword and maybe a set of armor made!" He found a series of papers that could be used as order slips. He began filling them out one for a sword and the other for a more functional light armor set. * * * Requests: Item
  11. "Well Zackariah," Wulfrin wasted no time making his presence known as he placed the bundle on the counter. "Five of whatever I could find as requested." "Ah very well!" Zackariah beamed. "Come let's get you set up!" Wulfirn was shown into the back of the shop. Before him was a large assortment of glassware and various alchemical ingredients. While most of the rarer jars still had plenty to offer, the ones of lesser quality items seemed to be a bit scarce. Zackariah guided Wulfrin's hands through the process. While crafting did seem to have some complexity mostly the system handled th
  12. "A bulette was actually the first thing I thought of," Wulfrin replied. "From what I remember about them, they like to burrow around. Makes them tricky to pin down." He shrugged. He wasn't stoked about the thought of being eaten from below his feet, but Freyd's confidence somewhat reassured him. "I'd still like to get a taste of combat first." He assumed there might have been some opposition while gathering but was pleasantly surprised there wasn't. He stretched and returned to his feet. "Alright one final push to the end." Another hour maybe two? Wulfrin lost track. he was determined to
  13. "I can see where you are coming from," Wulfrin replied. He could respect someone just looking out for the little guys, even if it was somewhat from a mindset of self interest. "If I were in your shoes I'd probably do the same thing." He was focused on turning over all as many rocks and looking in as many burrows as he could. "Too many times I've seen players struggle in other games, but they just don't want to admit it." His thoughts began to wander again. Where would he go? What lies ahead? He shook himself back to reality. After roughly another thorough look he resigned himself to another br
  14. "You'd be willing to do that?" Wulfrin asked with a hint of suspicion. "I wouldn't want to hold you back form tackling other things though. I'm sure you've got other more pressing matters." Wulfrin continued his hunt for the elusive materials of floor 1. He managed to find another handful. The end was in sight as he only needed one more to move onto the next portion of the quest. "But if you are planning on taking me up to floor five to face off with that Sand Shark it may be in my best interest to at least stop by Knight Shift and Evening Star to see what I can pick up with the starter packag
  15. A small bell chimed above his head as Wulfrin entered The Evening Star. He had been recommended to come visit by Freyd, since he was new to Aincrad. "Cozy place," Wulfrin remarked as he made his way down the path to wards the main counter. The cat that was set upon it eyed him as if expecting something. "I take it the owner left you in charge?" He pat the counter's attendant gently on the head before starting his look around the cases. His gaze became fixed on two items in particular, a pair of ear cuffs and a blue crystal. The cat gave a soft meow that sounded almost like affirmation. Ta
  16. "I'll take one," Wulfrin snatched the bun out of it flight path. The taste was sweet and reminded him of home. "Hard to believe some people can think they have to solo this." He said as he finished off the snack before returning to his task at hand. Once again it seemed his hunting space had run dry. "I can definitely see what you mean about this being inefficient." Wulfrin sighed. "Even with the bonus, I'm still only hitting a few of these material drops." He looked deeper into the fields. "I cannot wait to be done with this." While waiting for the materials to repopulate he decided to train
  17. "Honestly," Wulfrin sighed. "I'd like to take you up on that. For me I've always learned better by doing." Wulfrin continued his search for the requested materials. "But first things first, I have to wrap up with Dorian." Internally he hoped the entire thing wasn't just a ruse and there really was a debt to be paid, but it just wasn't from Zachariah. "Also I agree on the crafting of one's own gear. "Sometimes it's just more convenient than trying to find that one NPC two towns over that can kit you out. Not to mention I'm pretty sure I read Player-made items tend to be on the higher end when
  18. "The particulars not much," Wulfrin replied returning to his gathering of materials. "I favor versatility. Typically I train with a longsword and use a combination of one and two handed strikes." Wulfrin slipped into a state reminiscence. The sounds of wooden training swords rang in his ears. Each impact striking true and being retaliated with a deflection. He was younger maybe 13. He regretted dropping the classes. Unfortunately as he got older the extra circular activity was practiced less and less. The style was one created by the teacher himself. Wulfrin was taught to move swiftly and unbu
  19. Wulfrin stopped for a brief moment and decided to make use of the gift given to him. He had hoped it would speed up the time it would take. "Good to know I'll keep that in mind!" He turned and went a bit farther from the river both for some fresh materials to maybe appear and not disturb the fish that Freyd had taken a shine to. After a good hour or so of not finding anything, Wulfrin decided to draw his Straight Sword. He had studied a bit in his free time but those lessons had grown fewer and farther between as life started getting in his way. A few swings of the basics just to get the feel
  20. Wulfrin gave a friendly salute to the Alchemist that had already returned to his work as they exited. "Thanks for the gift," Wulfrin said to his new companion before the chime of Wulfrin opening his UI echoed in the street. The walk to the Northern Gate was uneventful with the exception of audible frustrations from Wulfrin. The entire trip he was deep in the menus and the player's guidebook handed out to each new player. "There's just so much going on," Wulfrin dejectedly sighed. "Normally I'd just experiment and learn the game, but considering the GM's announcement, I feel everything nee
  21. "Well," Wulfrin replied with a slight chuckle. "Based off the tail end of that conversation you were having, you probably know why I'm here." Wulfrin reached to the back of his head trying to be as casual as he could slightly embarassed. He had never considered that the NPC's could actually think somewhat. "Now I feel like I'm intruding." He thought to himself before replying. "I've been sent by Dorian to talk about collecting a debt that he lent out to someone, but can't seem to remember who. And by the looks of it this isn't the first time." "Yes, yes" Zachariah replied like it was a r
  22. It hadn't been but maybe a few minutes since Wulfrin had finished logging in. His brown hair fell gently down to just below the start of his longer bangs parted to help with visibility. He came equipped with a simple red tunic and tan trousers leading to a pair of leather boots that extended halfway up his calves. He stood about 5'7" and was still adjusting to the feeling of weightlessness that came with being a virtual avatar. He scanned the central plaza of The Town of Beginnings, at least that's what the game called it as he logged in. He began wandering the streets examining the various s
  23. I'm looking for some fellow players that would be willing to party up and clear <<The First Lessons are Free>> and maybe help me get a better grasp of the play by post style. This is my first attempt at an RPG like this so I'm not exactly in my comfort zone. I've done roleplay in games like DnD but that's about where the experience ends. Any help would be appreciated!
  24. Some say the world will end in fire, Some say in ice. From what I’ve tasted of desire I hold with those who favor fire. But if it had to perish twice, I think I know enough of hate To say that for destruction ice Is also great And would suffice. - Robert Frost Profile: Username: Wulfrin Real name: Lance Perkins Age: 26 Gender: Male Height: 5’7” origin: America Birthday: January 12th Background: Lance was always an active MMO and RPG player.
