  2. “So? It’s a little hardcore. That's all, if I die I gotta restart from the beginning so what?!” My hand reaches for the hilt protruding from over my right shoulder. The blade on my back resembled that of a mangled up car door. The gargantuan hunk of steel had no defined shape, no pommel nor grossguard. It’s width was no less than three feet, along with a length scraping just below six feet. The edge of the blade was jagged, and a mix of bronze, steel and gold can be pointed out at a quick glance. It’s name was Steel Requiem. A rare, two-handed broadsword that was wired to me via my f

  4. "your fridge?" it took him a moment to process the home appliance -- because, of course, the real-world technology was a much more accessible piece of furniture than the ones he'd seen inside the game. had it really been so long since they'd been out of their virtual reality? in the interim, he took taka's hand and shook it. "shikari. i'm not so much a hunter myself at the moment though." the man chuckled, the corner of his smile tight for a brief moment. "i used to be, but that's a different story. ... monster-slaying is a pretty big ordeal these days." there was a brie
  5. I nod in understanding. “Whether it was wi-fi or just some server backlog, it was annoying!” I chuckle, but then something he said caught my attention, something that I almost took offense to. “Stay in town?” I repeat. The corners of my mouth curled up into a cheeky smile. “Ahh man! I'm not that green. I've been waiting forever to get this new tech, there's no way I'm waiting any longer to get into some monster-slaying!” I shouted with obvious excitement. Looking at his gear, this guy must’ve been grinding for a while and he clearly knows what he's doing. He's probably a decent level
  6. it didn't matter if marquis was right, and shikari's memory was indeed failing. by the way the player had talked, it really did seem as though they were new to the game -- and it didn't help that they had a really good reason behind the facade. shikari chuckled. "you too? i had some problems with my wifi when i was starting out too, sure... but nothing drastic enough for an hour." as much as he was grinning, his eyes behind his mask had told a different tale. because, suppose it had been true -- somehow, within the outside world, they really had been managed by external forces, and this y
  7. I pivoted on my heel with a smirk and was just about to dart towards the rear exit, but when I did so I found that my destination had been replaced by a well-built man with wild, fiery hair wearing a sort of mask… “Woahh! Hey!” I exclaimed. Startled, I took a stutter step back after nearly running into the guy. I raised a brow, my smile faded but soon reappeared after finally understanding what he was asking. I responded softly and raised my hand to my chin, my fingers gently stroked just under the point of my chin as I began to think. “Teleport Crystal? I assume that's an
  8. no no no, someone definitely caught sight of this new player logging on. it was so abrupt, even, that shikari had gestured towards the stranger in the distance, mouth agape, just as he shook marquis' shoulder. shook, not tapped. the woman beside him flinched and made a noise of surprised, mixed with annoyance. a hasty, "what, what?" beckoned nothing from the man, despite marquis pulling her gaze away from her console, and she stared blankly at the space before her. the teleport plaza, as uninteresting as it ever was. "you didn't see it?" "see what? i've been keeping my eyes

  10. Vigilon breathed a sigh of relief. Looks like he could do more than just give these enemies a black eye. If he played his cards right, he might be able to cripple their encampment by laying waste to their structures when possible...depending on what he could and couldn't damage. He couldn't guarantee that every structure of these uprisers could be damaged or destroyed, but any way he could mess with them would be helpful to his current course of action. If he crippled their establishment, they would need to spend time repairing the damages before getting up to any further antics. That might sa
  11. Vigilon could hear snoring. The lookout was asleep. Vigilon knew that the cliff he just climbed was a fair way down, and the tree was young enough to be as thick as the average tree. Well, as long as Vigilon didn't test his weapon's durability, then if tree chopping was anything like how it worked in games like Breath of the Wild, he might be able to control the fall of the tree, and thus the hut as well...a greater fall meant greater damage, so he needed to be precise in making sure this younger tree fell in the direction needed. Vigilon began attacking the tree, but stopped every four swings
  12. Vigilon kept blocking and deflecting. "Wait for it...wait for it..." Vigilon saw both enemies wind up for an attack simultaneously. "...Now!" Vigilon swung his blade with force, knocking both his enemies back and leaving them open to his next sword art, which tore at them, one-shotting the spearman and finishing off the other. With both enemies obliterated, Vigilon looked to see if there was anyone in the lookout hut that witnessed the commotion of the fight. He didn't see anyone, but he needed to know for certain. He made his way over, slowly and carefully, climbing up the sto
  13. Vigilon decided to try switching up his strategy. He would swiftly begin to circle the two enemies, then unleash his attack, knocking the HP of the enemy with the two jaw weapons into the yellow, but after that he'd get swatted in the face by the other's spear. Vigilon was knocked to the ground, but he managed to roll to the side to avoid the spear thrust aimed at him, he then got up and did a sweeping kick at the legs of the one he struck before said foe could strike with both, and he fell on his back, while Vigilon jumped back to get another look into the situation before attacking or dodgin
  14. Vigilon turned to see he'd been spotted by two NPCs that were already heading over in his direction. "You there, stop!" One of them called out. Vigilon positioned himself, ready to take action if this got ugly. The other one would then speak. "You took the wrong way in, traveler." He began. "The jungle's quite the tricky place to navigate though, so I'll give you one chance. You looking to see anyone here? Someone you planned to meet with, or something of that manner?" He questioned. Vigilon knew this was gonna get ugly now. "Yeah," Vigilon revealed as he drew his sword. "Peony."
  15. Vigilon decided to try scaling the barrier. He began by giving the barrier a once over as he began thinking about where he should start, then he positioned himself. He then jumped onto the barrier and managed to get himself a firm grip. He climbed slowly and did his best to avoid making too much noise, in case there was a potential threat on the other side. Soon, he found himself reaching the top of the barrier, but with little choice but to jump in order to reach the land on either side of the river. He could see one structure close by, a simple hut in one of the taller points of the immediat
  16. While it was likely that there were many rivers on this floor, Vigilon had a fair guess that this one was the one he was looking for. He would follow the river, opposite to the direction of its flow. If one was making a settlement along a river next to a cliff, making the river be heading out of the settlement could be advantageous in defenses if they bothered to make any walls...but if the gap was poorly guarded, a cunning mind would be able to navigate their way in through the river gap without having to fight the river itself. This was all speculation of course, but it never hurt to guess.

If my avatar had been formed yet I’d sigh deeply, but I've not even gotten there yet! I paid a fortune for this technology—broke the law to get my hands on this damned game and it doesn't even work… I had thought I’d be stuck here forever, that was until the Spinning Wheel of Death had faded

  21. A shaky sigh passed his lips as he felt his entire demeanor buckle. The battered and defeated tone that dampened Lessa's voice, she was miserable. And who could blame her? This floor was miserable. However, there was a light at the end of the tunnel, literally. The dimly lit interior of H.P's, flickering lights shining through broken window panes, provided the slightest bit of solace. Jomei found his second wind, and with a heave he would shove the cart a bit faster towards their destination. The sooner they got there, the sooner they could get out of this rain. "Don't play it
  22. Arthur turned away, trying not to remember the gruesome details of his own past. One moment, he had kept his composure. A second later, it was gone. With a quick swipe of his hand, Arthur covered his face as the tears overwhelmed him. Even to Mike, this was hard to watch. However, in doing so, it stirred up a lot of mixed emotions within him. And some new thoughts began to well up within him. Perhaps I've been too unfair on him. After all, he's extended an offer to house me, even after feeding me. "I hope you can understand... Why I'm so quick to be this way..." He paused for a momen
  23. The interior of the Inn opens up into a bar and restaurant, filled with dozens of other players and NPC's alike. Quite of few them looked familiar to Mike. Some of them being scumbags who harassed him, while he begged for Col. Others, had never even cast a look at him. Towards the center of the room , a 15 foot wide staircase leading up to an open, but fenced off second floor. Perhaps, a common area for guests of the Inn. The heavy shift in lighting upon entering the room was enough to make Mike dizzy. He theorized if it could be the aroma, from the dozens of candles everywhere. No. Not even
  24. Mike didn’t utter a single word. After the old man helped Mike off the ground, the remaining discomfort within his head had almost fully dispersed. Another moment or two and surely, it'd be gone. The strange gentleman led Mike through the bustling streets of the Town of Beginnings. It is undoubtedly the busiest hub in the entirety of Floor 1. With how busy it is at all hours, it becomes hard to imagine that changing anytime soon. Only time would tell the significance of this incredible town and what it holds for the future. It truly is a sight to behold. One could spend all day exploring, and
  25. Mike lunged lunged up in bed, gasping for virtual air that he already knew didn't exist. Even in a video game, He thought. I can't sleep throughout the night. "What kind of sick joke is this?" After a brief sigh, Mike stood up out of bed. The virtual sensations of the rigid cold trickled up both of his legs like a million tiny spiders. Mike recalled a time before launch, when his son Carter, had mentioned that SAO would be able to replicate each of the five senses. A slight smile almost formed at the corner of Mike's lips. Remembering his previous life brings nothing but pain every single time

  28. "I am convinced that there is nothing simple in this damn game," came her answer, though she couldn't find the effort to put much malice into the words. Aincrad was... well, it was Aincrad. It was a bitch, on the best days. Occasionally, Lessa had those fleeting "wow, we're in a video game and this is all so magical" moments, but they came rarely these days. She might catch herself appreciating an especially pretty sunrise, or enjoying the smell of an approaching rainstorm, but she would much rather do so in the real world. There were far fewer things trying to kill her out there. Assuming she
  29. One tree to the other, one tree to the next, branch to branch... Although Vigilon was definitely seeing a more straightforward manner of movement, this was still a fairly exhausting way to travel, not to mention there's the great heights to fall down below if Vigilon wasn't careful enough. He didn't have very much to break his fall. Luck doesn't stick around forever, however, so of course Vigilon would end up missing one branch, and proceed to fall until he gripped at a hanging vine. This vine was awfully large, however, an in a place like this, that'
