Lilik, to her credit, didn't appear all that intimidated by the Beast. Crossing her arms across her chest, the woman took a long moment to look him up and down. "Who called the BFG?" "Cute," Lessa muttered. "The BFG. Referencing childrens literature at a time like this." Without shifting her gaze from Oscar, Lilik replied, "Roald Dahl was a fucking genius, and I bet you're just surprised that I even know how to read. Now who is this guy?" Her eyes caught and held Oscar's, amber and gold sparking like crossed swords. Lilik appreciated Lessa, and the work that she and Bahr did to

Relief flooded Lessa as Oscar materialized from the shadows. Raindrops sliced down his chiseled features, but it did nothing to soften the expression on his face. The man looked downright murderous, and for a split second, Lessa worried she might have done the wrong thing by messaging him. Did he consider it a waste of time? Probably. And she did not need her very large, very scary friend turning that anger on her. She would much rather forcefully drag Lilik back to the gate herself. She was opening her mouth to apologize when Oscar went off on Lilik, confirming Lessa's suspicions. Yup, h

In the square as all manner of people would flee, the crow stepped from the pad and reversed his grip on that knife. Shoving it up his sleeve, it disappears without even a peep. A glance back and forth, he'd scan them for signs of resistance or rebuttal. The township on this floor was so gloriously lax. They couldn't give a damn what they were up to, or frankly who they hurt as long as it wasn't sporting royal attire. A fine place for some procurement. Scanning the signs he'd begin to wander, looking for something that would leap out at him as a possible placebo or substitute for manual labor.

[EV-PP-F29] Tactical Analysis: Not Good <<Fatal Error: Act 1>>
Lessa replied to Freyd's topic in Intermediate Floors
Lessa observed the onslaught in silence, forever impressed by the precision with which the Frontliners attacked. Like a well-oiled machine, they landed blow after blow, slicing away at the Knight's health bar with seemingly impossible speed. No matter how many times she witnessed it, it always took her breath away. These ordinary people - students, bankers, chefs, engineers, retail workers, restaurant owners, high school teachers - had picked up swords and become full-fledged superheroes. Sure, the system assisted, but they were still out there putting their lives on the line every day. And th -

Mari felt a strong arm clamp around her and pull her in close - she could feel various vials poke at her through the contact. This embrace wasn't warm like Oscars - it didn't bring a sense of peace. It felt like one almost out of necessity. The woman was very still, and very quiet as the man tightened his grip on her - rough voice calling out their destination. Warping was always a dizzying experience - and Mari had forgotten what it was like, as she was usually one to just walk everywhere. Her eyes shut tight and she allowed the brief sense of vertigo to pass. The small woman was coughin

It was time to change things up. The Mossy Elemental had proved a difficult combatant, and resistant to her freezing attack as well. Perhaps she would be better put to use somewhere else in the fight. The players flocked towards the Summer Wave, a boy with white hair, flanked by a blue-haired boy and a purple-haired girl, surrounded the Enemy with an assortment of spears, hammers, and axes. Morningstar had also stirred himself up from whatever poignant moment had been happening on the sidelines. He appeared both distracted and flustered. Probably just a little heat exhaustion. The cr

As the gas would disperse into a thickened cloud, the man watches on listening for the footsteps. As if right on queue that marching rhythm started to bleed in from the south side. Like bees to honey, the array of metal tin men without souls wormed toward the players as if they'd tripped some sort of silent alarm. Lifting that marble sees it gleam, and with an overhand whip of his hand the thing crashes point blank against the town guardsman's chest plate. A wave of smoke released from pressurized glass, condensed it immediately mixes in the air like water from a tightly wound water balloon. I

Acanthus struggled as the tone of her visions broke stride from each other. She had no memory of either part of her dream. She had spent time at NIGHT’s estate, but had she ever gone foraging while living there? Not that she could recall. The dungeon was even more confusing. It appeared to be the Black Iron Dungeon from the first floor. But Acanthus had only heard descriptions. She had never set foot inside. Why are you so worried? It’s all just a dream, one of those rare lucid dreams that give you the freedom to act. She slashed through another round of goblins while she packed her

Acanthus was greeted by a dark, pitiful dungeon. The dim light kept her from seeing, but not smelling the damp, molding stones that disappeared into the darkness. A chorus of cackles grew in the distance. Goblins waddled into view, bearing wicked blades and grinning madly. With a single thought, Acanthus summoned her equipment and began to fight. Acanthus woke refreshed from the night spent at NIGHT’s estate. She woke early, hoping to get a head start on the day. No time to waste if I want to get home soon. Today’s tasks would be a quiet sort of busy work. Nothing exciting or hair-raising

The girl landed softly in a field of poppies. It was not a place she recognized. It was not Aincrad. Certainly, it was a land Aincrad would have created. The vermillion petals of the flowers formed an ocean so great the girl became momentarily afraid. In her awe, she wondered if escape was an option from the field, a beautiful prison without a single wall. When her fear and wonder subsided, she plotted how to leave. Unable to determine a plan, she decided to simply walk. As she walked, her path diverged from itself in a peculiar manner. The girl’s vision split in two: when she looked

The man seemed to understand her panic, he didn't judge her poor attempt at a sample. At least, Mari didn't think he did. It was really quite hard to tell. She never had any sort of facial expression to go off - and his movements, even his pantomimes, were always so concise. As Mari fiddled with the contraption on his arm she couldn't help but feel a little envious. imagine having something like that of her own? Being an alchemist in and of itself had been useful - but Mari had grown bored with it, and never really did much with it beyond crafting things for frontliners. But this man had in no

A final his of the machine sees that thick glove clasp the dial, slowly spinning it back counterclockwise with a ratcheting sound as it locks back. A little slide pops open on its right most side, near his hand and a little bottle is extended from the door. A clasp of index and thumb sees it turned out, like unscrewing a lightbulb he'd drop the vial into a pouch and pull out another filled with distilled water. Uncapping it, he'd offer it to Mari and let her screw it in. Pushing back toward the main contraption, the little door clicks shut and hides it with only the smallest seam in its brass

Oscar admitted he was suffering, and pulled away from her. Mari immediately missed that warmth Her arms prickled with the cool air. "can you though?" Mari asked him. "Can you take it?" Mari leaned forward placing one hand between his legs, and the other reaching out to grab his laced hands, giving them a comforting squeeze. It was clear he needed something, someone to listen to him. Mari wasn't exactly good with that sort of thing. Most of the time, she barely held herself together. As Oscar started talking Mari had to shift - she moved away from him and allowed the man to talk. Mari rema

“I suppose we do,” Oscar said. “Maybe it would help if I had one of those.” Easier said than done. The ability to sit down and simply let it out had been drowned kicking and screaming by the circumstances. Being trapped in the game. Thinking his ward had died and that stupid fucking war brought about by the kid’s inferiority complex. How everything could have been solved with a conversation. But no, he had to go and drag Oscar to Hell with him. Go after a man just whiling away the days, waiting until he could see his wife and the daughter that had been born after he was trapped. That
