  2. "It isn't terribly big," Wulfrin replied as he made a rough estimation with his hands. "Not much bigger than a tablet from our world." Wulfrin paid no attention to the cave around them, his Night Vision skill pulling most of the weight as he journeyed through the twisting tunnels. Before long he led them to a chamber with a tree stump standing alone in the center of the large chamber. The trees roots clung to the outer edges of the chamber, eventually coming back together at the apex of the chamber's ceiling. Positioned nicely at the center of the roughly ten foot wide stump was a tablet
  3. "Could have sworn I saw another player," Wulfrin huffed as Morningstar dismissed his initial observation. "Pretty sure his name was Alkor, but guess I was just seeing things. Callisto is still fresh on my mind." Wulfrin watched as Bliss explained her case to Morningstar after he had offered for her to join their party. Wulfrin was very concerned about Bliss's current level. Floor 8 was pretty high up the castle for a player still relatively new to the world of Aincrad. This floor was filled with gigantic beasts that could off a low level player in a single strike. While he didn't have any

  5. Lydia almost screamed when she saw that the incoming message was from Abellio. And everything else screamed at her to play it cool. But she was alright typing and sending out a message before those thoughts managed to attain a glimmer of actuality. She was already getting ready before the regret tried to set in. Tried to set in. It didn’t really make it very far. Lydia would absolutely never regret any amount of time she spent with Abellio. Only not spending more. She raced down to Floor 8 with a bright smile on her face. Because even if they weren’t a thing she still enjoyed every m
  6. I laughed, running a hand through my hair as I watched that little firecracker storm off. "Guess your charms don't work on her, eh Emilia?" "Fuck you!" Khione spat back at me, along with a dirty look. I shrugged it off as I dusted down the lapels of my suit. Appearances mattered, after all. Khione was so quick to anger, it was amusing. She put so much stock into keeping up her appearance. Always attempting a a friendly facade and yet she had less control than I when it came to her anger. At least she managed to catch on quick that my slip of the tongue was oh so deliberate. I wanted this
  7. The crazy thing was that despite it all, Abellio still wanted to see her. They had a whole quest chain to do right? That was a good enough reason to remain in her orbit, much as he wanted to fling himself from it. The thoughts were too deep. The feelings too. He couldn’t understand why she always came when he asked. What could she possibly see in him? The message was typed and sent before he even realized what he was doing. Panic settled in. He wanted to call it back, frantically scrambling through his messages looking for a recall option. Her reply came before he’d even really started

  10. The walk back to Tolbana’s square felt different now. Not easier, necessarily her leg still throbbed faintly from the boarlet’s tusk, and the grime of the day clung to her sleeves and boots. But there was a quiet rhythm in her step. Confidence, maybe. Familiarity. The unknown edges of this world had softened ever so slightly. She spotted Dorian near the fountain again, standing tall in his polished coat, monocle gleaming in the low light. He noticed her instantly his eyes lighting up with recognition, then nervous hope. “Ah! You’ve returned. And with good news, I hope?”
  11. "I was?" she asked, her voice trembling, though not nearly as violently as the rest of her. Her fingers found the hem of his henley, holding onto it, holding onto him, in an attempt to steady herself. Still, she shook as completely as a woman left alone in a frozen wasteland. "I don't think I was. If I was, it wasn't important. I don't know what I was saying." When her teeth chattered, she gritted them together, and muttered a breathy, "God, sorry. I'm sorry. I just..." Lessa twisted the fabric in her fists, her eyes wide and searching as they found his. She saw calm there, a sharp contra
  12. Miyuki knelt beside the chest, letting her hand hover above the aged lid for a moment. There was no trap, no magic seal just a simple lock mechanism. Her fingers worked quickly, clicking through the latch until it gave with a soft metallic snap. The hinges groaned in protest as she lifted the top. Inside, cushioned by a worn velvet lining, were glints of polished steel and vials of swirling liquid. Her breath caught for a second not in disbelief, but in silent gratitude. A curved blade, far more refined than the loaner she currently carried, rested atop a folded set of leather a
  13. Pete didn’t need to say much after their brief exchange. With a lazy hand gesture toward the back of his rickety boat, he grunted: “There’s somethin’ shiny in there somewhere. Bring it up, and I’ll call it square.” Miyuki stepped up to the boat, peering over the warped railing. Inside was a chaotic heap of fishing nets, rusty crab traps, and soggy crates, all tangled together like a forgotten corner of someone’s messy garage. She frowned slightly, rolling up her sleeves. "This is less treasure hunting and more swamp diving..." Her hands gripped the edge of th

  15. "Let's both be selfish, probably for the first time in our lives." Truer words had never been spoken. Lessa and Jomei were, undoubtedly, two of the most altruistic people in all of Aincrad. The wants and needs of their friends and loved ones always came before their own, and neither ever complained about it. Jomei couldn't remember the last time he did something for his own gain or pleasure. Just the constant need to make others around him happy. Perhaps Lessa was right. No, he knew Lessa was right. The two of them had the power to change that, individually or together. Even if these mome

  18. As the darkness befell the battlefield around them, Wulfrin spotted a similar movement in Belregor's pattern. The veil of darkness that engulfed him and his team caused Wulfrin to lose sight of the black knight for the breifest of moments. In his left hand, his Crystal of Divine Light felth heavy, the memory of its last use causing Wulfrin to hesitate for the breifest of moments. With a deep breath to center himself, Wulfrin raise the crystal to the sky causing the radiance of a dawn cresting sun to fill the shore of the black. The veil dispelled revealed exactly as Wulfrin had expected; where
  19. He gave it a small toss in the air and watched it fall back into his hand, trying to judge how far he could throw it. As he neared what he hoped would be the final boarlet he took aim and threw. The truffle soared through the air, arcing towards its target and landed directly in front of the boarlet. "Yes." Sunny clenched his fist at the sight of the successful throw. The boarlet took a second to react to the truffle, sniffing at the ground to the left and right before homing in on the tasty treat. Sunny watched in anticipation as the truffle was quickly eaten. "That's it. A tas
  20. With his eyes narrowed at the creature in front of him, Sunny concentrated on his swing. He wanted to make sure it was strong enough to take out the beast, but he also needed to ensure he was hitting it. Swinging wildly was bound to result in a miss. He led with his shield arm, taking aim at the boarlet in front of him before bringing his sword around and letting it slice through. The red line followed and he again felt the sense of accomplishment as the health bar depleted and the pixels exploded in front of him. "Two down, one to go." The tusk registered in his inventory. Sunny was
  21. Keeping his feet planted firmly with his knees slightly bent, Sunny again swung his sword. This time he did strike cleanly and as the health bar changed from green to yellow to orange, Sunny smiled in satisfaction. The buff icon for Heavy Momentum blinked away but Sunny could tell that it had done its job. The boarlet reared up before bringing its head down and driving its tusks into Sunny. Yet again, his armour reduced the damage and Sunny breathed a sigh of relief. He decided that he wasn't in any real danger. Maybe he would have been, if he'd taken different skills when he made hi
  22. The path sloped downward from the forge, leading away from smoke and steel, into the quieter edges of Tolbana. The hammering of Lyle’s anvil faded behind her, replaced by gulls and the distant slosh of water meeting wood. Miyuki moved with calm purpose, the aches of battle still humming beneath her skin. Each step reminded her that she’d endured. Not just survived progressed. The eastern sun had dipped lower now, casting the town in long shadows. Buildings gave way to open space, and soon the worn cobblestone transitioned into wooden planks, weathered and warped beneath her boots.
  23. Sunny ran at the boarlet in the same manner as his last fight, bringing the sword down just as before. He watched the blade fall but didn't feel the resistance. And the red line wasn't there. The health bar above the boarlet hadn't changed either. The information processed inside Sunny's mind as he felt the forehead of the creature ram into him. "Oof." Again the armour did its job and his health only reduced by a point. But the wind was knocked firmly out of his sails. This was the weakest mob there was and he thought that he had the advantage. That was a sobering thought. As he coll

  25. She couldn’t believe she’d done that. Why had she done that? Lydia stared into the mirror - into the eyes of her reflection. Some part of her hoped that the image would speak up and give her the answer. Her face still burned, even so many hours afterwards. Her lips too, as if she’d stolen a chunk of Abellio’s burning brilliance. She reached up and touched her lips, fingertips lightly brushing over the soft pink skin. She was terrified that the feeling would be gone when she woke in the morning. That she would forget. And why didn’t she lean into it? Clearly she’d had the cour
