  1. Neo started looking, but was to afraid to stray far from the gates. As such, she started to tire in what was becoming more of her fruitless search. She realised that it was quite likely that the game wouldn't even spawn many materials near the town. She decided that it would eventually be time to anyways and left the vicinity of the Town of Beginnings, making sure that the rapier she got at the beginning of the game was equipped.

I just realised, I don't even know how to use this thing, let alone be any good in a fight. I just hope nothing comes along, it would be a bad idea if I got killed right as I became brave enough to step into the world. It would certainly not look good to others who were stuck in my position. "Neopolitan, killed by level 1 Boar," what a way to go.

  2. Neo continued to look around.

If there is one here, it either means that there are more close by, or I'll have to go a little ways before I'll even have a chance at finding another.

Acting on the former thought, Neo decided to look around more in the area surrounding her first find. After a bit of looking, She was rewarded with another green shrub. Neo walked up to it and tapped it, causing the prompt to appear once again. She pressed the confirm button and the plant disappeared, along with some of her stamina. Even though this game was virtual it still knew how to make every part seem like real life to the player. Neo kept looking, hoping to find more in the area. But eventually decided to go out and find more, though staying as close to the city gates as possible, just in case she ran into something that she didn't want to face.

LD: 14 - search successful, quest material gathered (2/5)

  3. Neo sat down to think when suddenly a prompt popped up, "Harvest Materials?" It appeared she had just sat down on top of some materials. She quickly turned around and saw the little green shrub that she was going to have to look for before confirming the gathering.

How in the world am I supposed to spot these little green shrubs, you can barely even notice that they are there when you're looking straight at them.

Regardless of the possible difficulties to come, Neo confirmed the gathering. She suddenly felt a little bit more tired, almost as if she had performed the action herself. Neo opened up her inventory and made sure that the new quest item had gone in.

Well, at least this game isn't too buggy. Though I guess they've had a lot of time to do bug fixing while I've been busy distracting myself from everything.

  4. Neo started to head out into the fields, but got a little lost along the way again. After taking several wrong turns, she finally made it out of the gates and into the field.

It's so real, almost like it's actually existing in our world and just a port to this virtual one. I can feel the wind on my...

Neo shook her head, she had to remain focused no matter what. She looked around and began almost frantically looking for materials to collect. Suddenly, a glint caught in the corner of her eye. She rushed over to it and looked down to see only a shiny pebble that was likely discarded by another player after finding it near a river.

Rats. I don't even know what I'm looking for, I should've kept trying to get help out that NPC but I doubt they would give anything useful if I don't speak.

  5. Well, I guess it's finally time to pick myself off the ground and actually do something.

Neo had finally tired of sitting in alleyways in the town of beginnings and crying herself to sleep every night, it was time she did something. Which meant she needed to know what she could do in the first place. After getting lost multiple times, she found herself in the main plaza area. Looking around to see what she could do, she noticed an avatar standing still. They're probably an NPC. Neo walked up to them and tried to initiate an interaction. The NPC began to speak.

"So, you must be new to Sword Art Online. Well, I'm here to help. I'll guide you along the path to understand some of the inner workings of this game."

Neo gestures to the man to continue, but he doesn't. He's probably waiting for a verbal command, not that I want to give him one. After waiting a couple minutes while still standing next to him, though, he thankfully continued.

"Please go into the fields, find 5 materials, and bring them to me."

    About - History/Personality:

7pb2tdryd5h21.jpg    Born unable to speak, Neo had always had trouble making it through life. She had done her best to make do with making hand gestures to others, but was always stuck having to deal with misinterpretations. To add to her troubles, her twin sister Mint had no such problems. She was just as good as Neo, but seemed to do better due to her lack of communication issues. Though they never verbalized it, Neo's parents always resented Neo for declining the opportunity at a surgery that would let her speak. This led to her slowly becoming more detached in her family life, with all the praise turned towards Mint.

Things weren't much better in school. Neo was always pushed around because of her silence, many believing it was her way of trying to get attention in school. There were several that thought she was faking it, though the worst people knew she wasn't. Caramel was the worst, she was head cheerleader and everyone at the school adored her. Everyone except Neo and her few friends of course. Caramel constantly picked on Neo, teasing her with acceptance before shoving her down and blaming the fight on her in front of the teachers. No one dared to stand up to her, not even Neo's friends. Her influence was too strong.

The only saving grace Neo had was the few friends who stuck by her through the tormenting. She knew they weren't just there for the pity points, as by making friends with her they were subjected to an almost equal level of social torment. Vanilla was the closest friend Neo had, and the person who became her translator for others. With silent agreement, the two bonded over this and became the closest of friends.

Being bullied so much in school, Neo would turn to video games for her entertainment. Her friends would occasionally play with her, though not as much as she would play them. Just before high school ended for Neo, she heard of the wonders that would be SAO. She figured that if it was able to, she could speak in that game. Inviting Vanilla to come join her in the game, it wasn't long before she had stumbled into the death game with her friend like all the others.

Though for a long time Neo would suppress the memories of her early days in SAO out of fear, what happened then was extremely formative to who she is now. Getting trapped in the game wasn't much of an issue for her, and she enjoyed being able to speak with her friend for once. She did feel a little bit guilty for getting vanilla trapped in the game as well, but the two still got along quite fine.

66cad2c367e86a4d8bbcf19eaffe8278cc54bb5c    One day, the two of them were sitting in a flowered garden walled with shrubs of all kind. The day was beautiful and the two of them were enjoying it. But it was not going to end this pretty. As they relaxed, a rustling could be heard in the bushes. Out sprung a cloaked figure, an orange crystal above their head. Screaming at Neo to run, Vanilla tackled the man. The two tussled about as Neo slowly crept away. A scream tore at her throat as she watched vanilla shatter, the last thing she ever said. As she did that, a red-haired woman jumped out of a different bush and began to charge at Neo. There was little time to react, but she turned and ran towards the Town of Beginnings. She narrowly escaped into the safe-zone and the guards held the would-be murderer back. Hiding within alleys for the next couple of years, all she could remember in the end was crying about her dire situation, the loss of her friend all but forgotten now.

SAO Events: (Use the episode titles in the threads section for an idea of general events that happen)

        WIP

(This stuff needs to get updated as well. Feel free to ree at me if you see this reminder in July 2019 or later)

    Virtues:

    • Neo is extremely empathetic. She can generally tell how a person is feeling without any words needing to be spoken. She often uses this to help convey her own feelings without speaking
    • Neo is very loyal. Though it takes time to gain her trust, that trust is hard to break. Anyone who has gained her trust can always rely on her to be there to help unless she has absolutely no way to do so.
    • Neo is diligent. She will always work hard with whatever her mind is set on. If she has a goal set, she will do everything she can to achieve it.

    Flaws:

    • Neo is mute. She will not speak, even though she can now because of the game. This will often lead to miscommunication with those she doesn't know well.
    • Neo can be very skeptical. When she first meets someone, she will not immediately trust them. That trust has to be earned by consistently proving to her that you should have it.
    • Neo is hesitant. She will ofttimes never engage in social interaction unless prompted to nor commit to anything without first weighing risks and rewards. This can often lead to her missing out on many opportunities.
