  2. Thick jungle air swallowed them as they stumbled from the temple’s corpse-breath. Ariel’s fist clenched around Suterusu’s scale—obsidian shard torn from the panther’s flank during its ambush. Cold as river stone, yet burning with predatory cunning. Her ribs throbbed a dull echo of its pulse. Millicent shuffled behind, oversized coat snagging on vines. Darius pressed a monogrammed handkerchief to his weeping burn, carrot-orange uniform trim stark against mossy gloom. "Just a sting," he murmured, eyes flicking to Ariel—quick, concerned—before fixing on the emerald choke of foliage ahead. Dr

  5. The nest vomited knives. Wasps. Giant. Obsidian-armored, stingers dripping sizzling venom. Shrapnel in a tomb. I readied my weapon. Light flared—a guttering candle against a storm. I struck down the first wasp to dare attack us. Chitin smoked. It shrieked like grinding bones. Darius yanked Millicent behind an altar. Ariel flowed toward the swarm, blade bare. Cold steel. No shadowflame. Idiot! "Fall back!" I roared. She pivoted. Shink. A head tumbled. Ichor sprayed where her neck had been. RAW-A. Thorns spat from my vambrace as another wasp slammed into me. The imp
  6. "What guy?" Morningstar asked. He saw the girl, blonde and wearing footwear that he would have deemed inappropriate for the environment, but where was the frontliner? He squinted hard. Maybe he was losing his vision. "Did you take something from Kingsley? I told him to stop giving people weird tea. He experiments too much," he said after confirming that there was nobody next to the girl. "Anyway, yeah. If she's level one, then she probably shouldn't be on this floor at all." They took responsibility and approached Bliss, who looked out of place in the giant forest. At the very least,
  7. Elora's chewing slowed for only a moment as eyes grew wide at the revelation. You don't have to eat here? Had she ever really fasted enough to see? Suddenly sheepish at a perceived lack of discipline, her hand replaced its fork with the handle of a mug. I guess there were days -- when I was too scared to leave the inn...and also a little severely depressed. Even still, her appetite had rarely seemed to falter. If anything, traveling across Aincrad to sample every kind of taste and texture it had to offer -- it was one of the greatest pleasures of living here. If there was no breakfast, lunch,
  8. The last of the Red Cloaked Revenants were falling left and right. At last the end was in sight, which Wulfrin was thankful for as these shambling undead were basically damage sponges. Wulfrin's energy was draining fast, but as the last of the revenants started to shamble out, Wulfrin put an end to their plight. With a defiant yell, he drove the blade of Icingdeath into the ground causing ice so spider outward to all corners of the room. Instantly the crypt's temperature dropped to below freezing as the last standing Revenant became a frozen statue. At the edge of the crypt any remaining holes
  9. The force of the titan’s quake left her reeling in its hand. With a sense of dread, she looked out over the landscape again, only to see Pinball flying off the mountain. Her breath caught, and she swallowed the urge to yell or scream, or Cardinal forbid leap off the mountain to check on him. The fall would not kill him—it was mathematical certainty. But that did not change the height she perceived, or the cold wind whipping through her hair, reminding her that she would meet the same fate if she did not finish the job. As if to remind Acanthus, the Colossus rumbled, shaking loose bits of

  11. Jungle heat pressed like a sodden blanket, thick with the scent of rotting orchids and wet iron. Ariel ascended moss-choked stairs, vines thick as Darius’s forearms crushing stone moths under serpentine weight. Sunlight fractured through the canopy, dappling ruins that drank light. Millicent adjusted cracked glasses, her scanner’s whirr muffled by the green weight. “N-No life signs... but the air’s got these... shiny bits. Like crystal wasp venom.” She tucked a loose grey-blue-trimmed ponytail behind her ear, avoiding eye contact. Darius dabbed his brow with a monogrammed handkerchie
  12. Bliss felt her heart thumping as her own words echoed in her head, favorite person. Why did she say that? What if it was too much? She glanced at Astra, whose mouth hung slightly open in surprise. She couldn’t tell if he was stunned in a good way, or if she’d just scared him off. Her mind spiraled with doubt. She was never great at reading people, and the silence between them was growing unbearable. Then, he spoke. A wave of relief washed over her so fast she nearly exhaled a laugh. The tension melted from her shoulders, replaced with a bright, beaming smile. “I t-totally get w-what yo

  15. "Well tell your new guy to keep fuckin' up because I really do enjoy suffering his consequences," Mari stared at Oscar for a solid minute, her fork hanging in the air. A piece of omelette slowly slid off and fell back onto her plate. Her what? Did he.. Mari blinked. She had only met the man once. "I uh." The thought...that she'd actually be with him was outlandish. So much so that Mari couldn't help but laugh as she lowered her fork to poke back into her food. "Aahah...I don't know about that Oscar. I've only met the man once. I can't..." She tilted her head to the side in thought. Re

  17. "Well tell your new guy to keep fuckin' up because I really do enjoy suffering his consequences," Oscar said brightly as he plated his own omelette. Most men might have felt some type of way about being Plan B. Something about wanting to be the first to stake their claim or plant their flag or some other such nonsense. Oscar, on the other hand, didn't mind one bit. Especially not if it led to activities such as the ones they'd engaged in the night prior. He sank his fork into his omelette, bringing it up to his mouth as Mari spoke. Even as the topic veered off towards potentially uncomfor

  21. The city of Athenia was alive with the NPC that frequented the floor, bouncing around on every building and clambering for every door. A lively place where the populous would screech and argue, chattering would create an endless white static of a crowd that seemed to follow you no matter where you went. The bright green locks of a man who twists to look at a chiseled fellow's ass, finding it leaving just a little to be desired. "Eh. Could do better." The man remarks without an ounce of compassion, the NPC being utterly unaware he was just sized up for a good party. Wandering down the bronzed s
  22. Carsar turned out to be a pushover. He fell to the ground with a resounding crash and shattered into blue sparkles. As they vanished in the dark of the cave, Morningstar collected the hatchlings of Fuzziel. There were three (as well as an unhatched egg), which he quickly realized would be too heavy to carry on his own. Begrudgingly, he made trips back and forth, taking one dragonling at a time. Eventually, all were safe in the dragon mother's home. Fuzziel thanked him. Soon after, Morningstar had the chance to witness something beautiful. The egg moved and cracked, and out popped the head
  23. It took little time to discover Carsar's cave. The quest automatically generated a waypoint when he accepted it, and so all Morningstar had to do was follow his map. He stood at the mouth, peering in with active night vision. He could see the hatchlings, but where was Carsar? The dragon thief, he assumed, rested deeper in the cave. He shuffled inside, this time more carefully. He wouldn't want to disturb a sleeping dragon, if he could so help it. The hatchlings, uncooperative little children, made it perfectly clear that Morningstar was there. As he lifted one from the nest, it began
  24. Morningstar felt like he was walking on eggshells. He had never spoken to a dragon before, but assumed that they were fickle creatures. He worried that it might want to eat him. Frankly, he had entered the cave without knowing there was a dragon inside at all (although the piles of gold should have been a key indicator that he wasn't alone). He was exploring without aim or reason, as he sometimes did, and stumbled upon a cave he had not seen before. Floor 1 was all but entirely explored, so he was shocked to find it so far from the safezones. "Yes. I'm Morningstar. It's a pleasure to
