“Akir…” Freyd knew where Montjoy’s title had come from: the haughty and ill-fortuned herald of a doomed army, ultimately compelled to eat his own words and suffer the ignobility of defeat to a lesser. What would this one’s story be, he wondered? “I’ll be your family, my sweet Montjoy.” There was a time when Freyd would have worried that his other half would have been tempted by her words, but Montjoy had too long served as his own conscience to so easily abandon the moral persona that had become his centre. Ever the pragmatists, both of them, Montjoy’s strength came from the h

[BR-F29] Paving the Way to Floor 30 [Team 3: Jomei]
Acanthus replied to Plot Master's topic in The Frontlines
Belregor’s form shattered into pieces that struck out against the players. Each step around the boss forced different images into shape: Hirru, then Mina, and finally Lessa. The thought of fighting players chilled her to the bone. Rise. Clash. Move; dispatch. The river of time slowed sluggishly, washing to shore painful memories of careless rage. Acanthus recalled the rhythm of that fight: the heavy reports of steel on steel, footwork thudding through the sand like a dance that afforded no mistakes. It was a rhythm that lifted Acanthus effortlessly above herself and allowed her to ri -

Ariel - The Crowned Lion replied to Plot Master's topic in The Frontlines
The music reached her like an echo underwater—muted, distant. But something in it resonated. A note drawn across bone, or maybe memory. Whatever it was, it settled just beneath her ribs, and for a moment, her stance firmed. Then came the change. Belregor shimmered. The code stuttered—and Mina stood where he had been. Not her stance. Not her silence. But her face. Hair swept in a ponytail, one eye patched, the other gleaming red. Even in mimicry, it wasn’t right. Too rigid. Too deliberate. Like an actor wearing a borrowed mask. Ariel’s breath caught, but she didn’t move. The inst -

Ariel gave a soft exhale that might’ve been a laugh. “Traditional scouting. Can’t remember the last time I saw anyone actually peel back shrubs.” She angled a glance at Acanthus, her voice low and lightly amused. “Honestly? It’s refreshing. My Searching skill used to feed me clean data—heat signatures, movement trails, elevation dips. Like cheating, but earned.” A short pause. “Now I’m just watching a k... man toss rocks and praying I catch the scent before he does.” Her attention drifted back to the ridge as she stepped ahead. Wind curled around the stone edge, carrying the faint

Acanthus replied to KnightessCiela's topic in Beginner Floors
Another call to kill Terra Firma. How could she refuse? One day, that scale was going to make the difference between life or death. It never hurt to have some additional mitigation whenever it counted the most. After getting lost in Fortaleza longer than she cared to admit, Acanthus finally found Ciela, waiting just off the main path through town, sipping on what looked like a refreshing drink. “I’m still not used to seeing you in all that armor,” Acanthus remarked. She approached her friend with a warm smile. “Not that it’s a bad look; it’s just that we only ever seem to meet up for -

Acanthus replied to Ariel - The Crowned Lion's topic in Beginner Floors
“Right, an adult. I’m sorry.” When she was a child, it bothered her for adults to talk down to her so regularly. Here she was, doing the same thing. Something in the boy’s—the man’s—attitude shifted. Gambit sprinted ahead of the other two, inspecting rocks and shrubs for any sign of dragons. “The searching skill… doesn’t actually work that way, right?” Acanthus whispered to Ariel. “I typically activate it so that it can tell me where to go. I have to be close to wherever I’m searching, but I don’t have to…” She trailed off, observing the boy enthusiastically turn over rocks and peel apart -
Morningstar wasn't cognizant of Arabelle's flustration, or he would have commented on it cheekily. He was, however, a bit disappointed by her answer. A broker had told him with absolute certainty that he would find a cat on Floor 10, somewhere in the Endless Caverns. But now that he thought about it, it sounded more like a prophecy than trustworthy intelligence. He was beginning to wonder if the guy in the tent in Fortaleza was really a broker at all. She suggested they check the river. Morningstar was almost positive that anything drinking from the Stygian River by choice was a monster,

"Isn't it curious, mio amico, that even with all of these other busy bees, that this bothersome nuisance should find its attentions drawn to our activities through completely random and alternative means?" Even through the audio distortions, her meaning was clearer than a cold, still Austrian lake on a winter's morn. Despite the oppressive literal furnace heat surrounding them, there was a sudden chill in the air, like the void before them had suddenly cooled its temperament. "It wasn't Bran's zeal, or Rosaria's entourage, or even Tybalt's deliberate distractions that required my direct att

“Akir.” She practically purred. Finally giving her name. Her identity. Severing herself from Mari just that little bit more with the admission. Montjoy gave her all the attention she craved, and the shadowy figure lapped it up - her loneliness and desire to be with others mirroring Mari’s. Good Mari was getting boring. Frustrating. Especially lately. “I’ll be your family, my sweet Montjoy.” She laughed, a manic and melodious giggle. “Finally..” She would stroke Montjoys cheek as she moved away from him, standing. “It was so suffocating.” she’d nestle her fingers into Montjoys hair. “She w

Gambit replied to Ariel - The Crowned Lion's topic in Beginner Floors
"Young man? I'm like... fully an adult. And also," Gambit scoffed, buffing his nails on his shoulder, "I'd be more worried about the dragon, eh?" Ariel chimed in too. Something about a leash made him frown. He was in too deep now. He had to fight back! These ladies were questioning his capabilities! His super confident strong buff guy capabilities! "Uh, I think I'm leaning towards the former." Fearless definitely had a nice ring to it. Two things were for sure, though: he wasn't an adult, regardless of how much time he might have perceived to pass here in Aincrad, and he hadn't read -

It took more coaxing than expected, or that he would have liked, but Mari had at least managed to place the mask over her head and protect herself after the dark thing spilled from her guts in thick, viscous spurts onto his lap. It should have disturbed him. It would traumatize most people. Freyd filed it away for future forgetfulness, like a mental wood chipper-shredder for inconvenient truths and memories. There was a job to be done here. Letting his alter ego take the lead, at least it felt like it was part of him this time, and not some wayward doppel copy run amok, like the slime

-House- ♫ Theme ♫ "Where we love is home, home that our feet may leave, but not our hearts." — Dealing with the strain of another Earning a Living quest; and fishing alone on the 10th floor…and the stress of that strange dark Shinsengumi man - unmistakingly a Laughing Coffin member… It was all too much. It would be nice to have a reprieve. Lancaster was dealing with ‘his business’ which left her for some time alone. And Freyd…was on his way. The Labyrinth had a way of changing itself when stragglers became to accustomed to its layout. The walls shifted in ways that did not make sense. Entire locations seemed to teleport, disorienting any who exist within them. There was no telling where they might end up next, or if they would exist at all. Sometimes, there was a garden. Thematically, it did not fit with the layout of the floor. Lush, vibrant vegetation and thriving wildlife dotted every corner of the garden, while outside, the world was dull. Dull skies. Dull walls. Dull everything. Anyone could have stumbled into the g

The girl took delight in teasing Sable. After they had first met she had taken him for just another passing ship. When he had called the knight woman over that he had been partying with she teased him of course, he was cute in a 'I'm new and don't know anything' kind of way. Hell she was certain that he probably had a thing for the woman he was with, she was pretty in her own way. But when he came back from that trip to the 29th floor he was... different. He seemed more determined, more focused. Sable had still stumbled through his words but he had given Krow a dagger. One of a matching s
