Gareki Resized.jpgHikoru, Master of Shadows, Bearer of Shame

Username: Hikoru
Real name: Ace Stevens
Age: 19 (Joined SAO at 17)
Birthday: February 13th
Gender: Male
Height: 5'7

About:

Hikoru grew up within a small suburb in America, where he grew up with his two parents, his mother named Cho and his father named Hikaru, and his brother Michael. His parents had moved from Japan before either of their sons were born, and had found good jobs that gave them enough money to afford a good house. They soon bore Ace, and then a few years later they bore Michael. The two boys grew up playing within the woods near their house after they found a hole beneath the fence. The two found sticks and started to fight one another. Ace preferring to use a short weapon that resembled the look of a dagger, and his brother used a weapon that resembled a small rapier. They practiced for months, coming home with bruises and cuts with explaining that they fell out of a tree or tripped on a root. A few months to a year later they had both gotten well with their weapons. Ace and Michael keeping an even score in their fights and having no problem finding openings of each other's weak points, and soon they grew close.

A few months later, Ace and Michael's parents bought them two laptops for Christmas. They were basic models, but they were able to play games which is what both of them wanted. Soon they downloaded an online game and worked together. His brother, keeping to the Japanese heritage they had, used the username "Jiro." Ace was unsure of what to use. He thought for a moment and wanted a reason to remember his family, as it was important to him, and he decided to use both of his parent's name within his username, birthing the username "Hikoru." They both played for months, donning different play styles and easily defeating bosses together. They grew closer within the game and even using their usernames in the real world when they talked to each other. This went on for months until Hikoru hit the 8th grade, where things went downhill.

Hikoru grew more unsure of himself in these times, always wondering if he looked good or if his attitude was well. He cared more about how he looked instead of how his grades were, causing him to fall within the school. His parents grew worried and confronted him, which he just shoved off as "I'm just too busy thinking of high school and college." As he knew his parents cared about his education. His brother, however, knew the lie, as he had noticed that his brother's attitude had changed at home, and even how he looked. He confronted him within their game, which enraged Hikoru to leave the game without a word. This was when the split started between the two of them and soon their relationship distanced further and further as time went on. Soon, they barely even spoke to each other, ignoring each other in the halls and finding other people online to play with.

As time went on Hikoru became a senior in high school, easily skipping the 9th grade and a grade ahead of all of his previous classmates. He didn't care as now he spent all of his time with himself, keeping quiet within classes unless he was called on, and ignoring calls and negative comments from other students without even a glance towards their way. His parents and Jiro grew distant in their relationships, and they now barely ever spoke, unless they needed him to take out the trash. Hikoru was hired on a well-paying job that he worked at when he wasn't at school, coming home late and sleeping for school the next day. He received a phone call from an area in Japan where his parents grew up, and it was his family, wanting him to go to them to finish high school and college. His grades were much more than enough, and he agreed, knowing that the colleges there could give him a better chance at a good degree. He talked to his parents, who after some negotiations, allowed him to leave. He packed his things quietly in one night and bought a plane ticket for the end of the week. The week flew by quickly. As he went to move his last box into the back of his parent's car, Jiro came sprinting out of the house, tackle-hugging his brother and sobbing into his shirt. Hikoru was stunned for a moment and held his brother for a moment. Jiro begged him to not leave, and Hikoru just sighed as he released the grip of Jiro. He got down on his knee and gave his brother one last hug, before leaving and boarding the plane to Japan.

Soon he arrived and moved into his room. His relatives were not very fluent in English, so Hikoru had to use an online translator to talk. After a while, he started to pick up on some of the languages and decided to study it until he was fluent enough to speak it semi-normally and easily be understood by natives. After a few months there, he heard word of a new system coming out with a game that put your whole body into the virtual world. Curious, he looked up and soon heard about the Nerve Gear and Sword Art Online. He bought the nerve gear and pre-ordered the game, anxiously awaiting the release. Months passed and he finally received the game in the mail, and he plugged in the Nerve Gear, letting the system download to his computer as he ate a quick plate of ramen, then laid down on his mat and put on the nerve gear. Setting the game's language to English, he spoke those fateful words.

Virtues:

Skilled Planner and Leader (Replaced Courageous and Calculative):

During his time in SAO, Hikoru had truly fit into himself much more than he had started out. After numerous adventures, Floor bosses, and raids into sub-dungeons, he had learned many useful skills that made him into much more of a leader. He feels it is his burden to lead the lower-leveled players to victory to free them. He will spend most of his time planning ahead for floor bosses, bringing teams together and planning on seeing where the fight will end up and will do his best to keep the wishes that players may have when it comes to teams. He faces the danger head on first before the others to see what dangers really lie ahead, and he isn't afraid to take a few hits to help other players to achieve their goal of escape.

Adventurous:

Hikoru liked adventure, he always did. Through his travels of SAO, he had seen so many wonderful things, and he had come to love the creativity of the game maker and how he had made this floating castle such a beautiful place to explore. But Hikoru still wants to see so much more in the world. He wants to find all the things that can be discovered, what quests he can take that others haven't, and be able to make a complete map of the whole castle for everyone to enjoy. He wants to know the game inside and out and wants to be the first to find the things that are needed to be found.

Strong:

While this can be taken in many different ways, Hikoru is strong not physically, but emotionally and mentally. After so much loss in the game, he has learned to overcome the pain of losing allies and friends to look at the bigger picture: Escaping this game. Although he may be able to, others are not. That's where the strength comes in. He is able to be that person that someone can lean on in a situation where they feel their world is falling apart, and he will be there for support through thick and thin until things get better, and will help them to get back on their feet and keep moving forward, past the horrible things they may have gone through

Flaws:

Secretive (Replaced Quiet and Shy):

Hikoru has become very secretive in his time on SAO, and for the better. As he bears Shadowed Path, the stealth-based unique skill, he wanted to learn how to use it to it's fullest potential, using stealth to attack from behind and dealing extra damage to creatures gave him a sense of accomplishment, but he wanted more. As he delved into Shadowed Path, he learned things about himself that he had never known, and he knew that some of these things needed to be kept to himself. It started small with keeping secrets, but it's turned into now what seems to be everything hidden, keeping even the smallest details about his plans to himself and waiting to show them until they got to the fight or whatever the plan ensued.

Untrusting:

Thanks to newly found information, Hikoru no longer trusts anyone. Being lied to about his mentor's death from his ex-fiancee, it made him see that even the closest people can't be trusted. Ever since he has made it his mission to work alone, even shunning the possibility of help from other guild-mates and friends he had come to trust over the few months he had been with them. He no longer trusts even the people he found close, such as Teayre, Calrex, Jomei, and many other countless frontliners he knew and fought alongside with. He now works alone, and will not want to work with anyone until his mission is succeeded, or someone can show that they really can be trusted.

Anxious:

Hikoru has always had the problem of wanting to keep moving forward, never slowing down. After his time in SAO, he had become much more tolerable with waiting, but it doesn't mean he still liked it. He wants to continue forward into the levels, wanting to see what challenges lie ahead and how many challenges he can take on. He wants to move forward and discover what lies ahead, what secrets are held within this game. People that prefer it slow every second of every day tend to annoy him, and he avoids adventuring with those people if he wants to get through something quickly.

Pacifist:

After his encounter with Zandra in her house, Hikoru realized that he cannot find the strength to kill another player or person. He fears and knows that if he kills them, that he is only becoming as bad as they were, and the thought of a person dying by his hands is something that he couldn't handle to hold on his shoulders. So Hikoru has decided to become a Pacifist, being willing to fight to defend himself and others in an emergency, but never having the strength to be able to kill the player that he may be stuck fighting.

Fighting Style:

Bakkuburaddo Style (Back-Bladed Style): When Hikoru was young, he used to play with his brother using small sticks and play fight. His brother used somewhat of a large sword while he chose to use the equivalent of a dagger. The thought came back to him when he grand mastered his Dagger, and after that, he remembered and taught himself how to attack all out very quickly. This is his main fighting style, and it's how he always fights. He holds a reverse grip on a dagger, holding it close to keep a balance of both offense and defense. He is able to move around easily while still being able to attack freely, not having to give large swipes to attack. He is usually very cocky and somewhat teasing towards his allies and his enemies when he uses this style.

Sairentokirā Style (Silent Killer Style): Once he had mastered Stealth he started to dabble into this fighting style, but when he had Grand mastered Shadowed Path, he focused solely on mastering this fighting style. He becomes very quiet, hiding his face beneath the hood of his cloak as he focuses solely on vital points of an enemy. He doesn't speak or make eye contact with anyone, and he only uses this when he is fighting a large enemy, or fighting with others and needing to help protect them. Using this fighting style works solely with Shadowed Path Sword Arts, and it wears him out quickly, which is why he doesn't use this fighting style often.
