[BR-F27] Paving the Way to Floor 28

Recommended Posts

"I'm here, I'm Here!! Aaagh!"

Violet found herself sprinting into the area right in front of the Boss Room, a flustered look on her face. She was running extremely late all things considered, even having missed the raid Meeting that had occurred mere days prior to the parties beginning to arrive. It was a miracle she'd even arrived partially on time, wincing as she spotted all of the people who were already gathered around the entrance to the boss room. "Shit, maybe I need to pay better attention when it comes to prepping for things like this." She mumbled under her breath as she pulled out two of the items that Zandra had given her.

She gently began applying the thick green salve to the blade, A soft green hue appearing on the edge of the blade as she finished. She let go of the bottle, the empty salve bottle evaporating into a cloud of blue polygons. A few moments later, the Damage potion she'd retrieved did the same, the benefits already hitting her. She checked her menu, taking a look at who's party she was with, and sighing in relief when she saw some familiar names in there.

@Freydwas distributing items to their teams, so she skipped her way over to him, happily accepting a blessing from his Gungnir Shard, as well as both a Liquour of Light and some rather... fluffy-looking Meatballs. "Let's beat this bosses Ass, shall we Shadow Man?" she said, grinning at the veteran player, before walking off to take a look at the rest of the players gathered around. She recognized NIGHT, Jomei, Ariel, Crozeph, Nari, and Hirru, while there were a few faces she didn't recognize (though that was a very small handful of the many players that were showing up.).

She idly watched the rest of the group milling about, munching on the fuzzy Meatballs, and washing them down with the Liquour. It was time for another raid, and she was going to do it right.

Elora diligently accompanied Kat on her approach to the other players. She couldn’t deny the uneasy feeling of being surrounded by less than familiar faces. Still, she gathered the decency to give each of them a nod or small greeting in return. These were the people she’d be fighting alongside. Could she trust them with her life?

If they can trust their’s to you…, her conscious rightfully reckoned.

She followed in line with their actions, accepting foods, potions, and other consumables from the player who would be their captain. @Freydseemed to hold himself well despite the reallocation of his role. Although he had a slender stature, Elora always regarded him as an extremely strong and competent fighter. At least, whenever he wasn’t tripping over his own heels or other environmental obstacles.

“You ready, Tank?”, she asked, clasping his shoulder with a reassuring hand. Unintentionally, she had begun to mimic the gesture as a means to offer comfort in return. “You know if I can handle my first raid, there’s no way you won’t” That came out right, right? “And don’t worry, I’ll protect you if you end up slipping and falling on your ass”, she added seriously, but iced with a lighthearted smile.

Satella (Re:zero) LoRA for AI Models - PromptHero[ADVANCED TRAINING USED: +10% Thread EXP]

Quiet footsteps were hardly able to be heard echoing across the cavern. Voices were to be heard ahead of her as a group of players amassed in front of the boss room. It seemed she had managed to make it in time. Violet eyes passed onto the participants that had gathered. Freyd was of the people she knew well along with NIGHT, but there were several unfamiliar faces. Mina was also among the known but an individual she knew little of. Her attention became caught on a girl in a teal Haori.

"Interesting... so that is her, huh?"

As she strode into the room, a faint smile reached the lily's lips. Many players stood focused, their stances rigid as they prepared for the upcoming battle. Stepping past @Crozeph, a cold would wash over him. "Lighten up a bit, won't you?" Her voice was playful and teasing but she wouldn't wait for his reaction and instead continue forward. Reaching into her inventory, she would pull free one of her buff's beginning to munch on a candied apple that had recently been made from one of the apples Raidou had brought her.

She would continue to advance until she was met with @NIGHT"Hey cutie, sorry I missed your meeting. Where do you want me?" Hidden's voice was playfully curious, revealing she was teasing NIGHT as she had Cro.

With Raidou not present, she would differ to NIGHT and then Freyd. The two were some of the most prominent players known to the frontlines and probably had the most knowledge of the current floor itself while Hidden spent a good deal of searching to get this far.

night nearly fell over the moment the golem started to assemble itself. so much for her attempts. but it made sense for someone else to have gotten it right, anyway – not that night knew what she was doing. why did everyone recite the words, anyway? weird.

remaining oblivious, she took one look at the growing crowd of fighters before her, taking a beat to remember who her party members were. night wasn't prepared to use oathkeeper in a fight like this just yet – too much volatility, and she needed a bit more reliability; besides, the blade didn't seem like it might like her enough to stay consistent in a setting such as this. she eyed a person in the crowd she could trust for the job, before moving over to him with a wave and a proposition.

@Alkor... was much more decked out in armor than she remembered. "oh," night started, unintentionally, "you're in plate." and if she hesitated in saying what she'd wanted to, it was to consider their party's role arrangement, before pulling out her blade on offer, handing it to him hilt-first. "here. give this a try. and maybe you should tank for us instead – i hadn't expected anybody else to have stepped up for it. i'll switch you out if you need it."

katalina-granblue-fantasy-story-art.png"Dang," Lessa breathed appreciatively, emitting a low whistle as the images above the boss room door came alive. Each symbol burst into color, and it took her a few seconds to recognize them as the crystals from each territory. "Huh," she added, tilting her head slightly at the sudden connection. Maybe she should have paid more attention in the boss meeting. Maybe she should have actually finished the Mysterious Divide quest. A few weeks had passed since she and Jomei had concluded the first, and he hadn't mentioned continuing since then. Without conscious thought, her gaze flicked over to where the redhead stood nearby. Should she mention it to him, just to test the waters, and gauge if he's even interest in continuing?

No, what she should do is pull a Troy Bolton and get her head in the game.

Deliberately turning away from the Irishman, Lessa strolled over to NIGHT, and the folding table that she was currently stocking. "You're amazing for doing this," she said simply. She suspected that NIGHT didn't care to be showered with praise, but it did need to be said. "I really appreciate it, because I'm pretty horrible at preparing on my own." It was true, in so many ways. When was the last time she'd stocked up on consumables? When was the last time she'd trained - seriously trained, and not just farted around with lower-level mobs for extra col? She honestly couldn't remember.

Snagging five of the items, the Guardian popped them into her mouth as she moved past the defeated golem. Ae she moved past, she was smacked with a sudden, overwhelming sense of regret. It reminded her a bit of walking through clouds of Axe Phoenix in her middle school days - completely sudden and undeniable, but not quite tangible. What did she have to regret? Using NIGHT's consumables, or not talking to Jomei? Or joining this boss fight at all?

Head in the game, she chastised herself, downing the Liquor of Light like a shot. It went down like peach whiskey, and reminded her of home, and seemed to chase away the negative emotions as she slipped into the boss room. Thoroughly expecting the usual dimly lit chamber, Lessa had to squint against the violently bright light cast by the crystals. "Guess we won't be needing Night Vision," she mused aloud. Rolling her shoulders, she placed a hand gently on the hilt of her Claymore, as if to assure herself that it was still there. "It'll be fine," she heard herself state, completely out of the blue. "We'll be fine."

Alkor had known going into the raid that the community suffered from a severe lack of people willing to take on the risks involved with frontline tanking. The people who stood in front of the people standing at the front were the most hearty of adventurers, but also, the ones who kept the rest of them alive. He didn't think he was quite ready to be the guy, but he was definitely coming to terms with the fact that he needed to be guy.

...did that even make sense? It did in his head, so he went with it. He watched quietly as the others began to filter into the room, exchanging greetings, trying to calm each other down, desperately seeking to melt the tension. But Alkor had said recently to Setsuna that fear and instinct were natural parts of the human psyche. They were responses to danger that kept people alive, and even under certain circumstances, pressed them to transcend their limits. For years now, Alkor had pushed himself toward those limits and even sought to go beyond them, casting aside that healthy fear for life in favor of barbarism and all the subtlety of an exposed nerve. Light armor had felt like that. Freeing, and yet, leaving a great deal to chance. Risk and reward.

But where was the reward?

Near death in the face of the Hydra on Floor 9, and then a coma that he almost hadn't awakened from. Death for many other Players that he knew he couldn't have prevented, yet couldn't possibly know if his presence might have been just enough to alter fate. Without being present, without being cautious, without an informed and bolstered strategy, without the numerous players who had the potential to come together and do something great... was any of it possible to do alone? No man is a mountain.

But... one man could be a Bastion.

He didn't know them all. Many of them didn't know him. The ones who did had varying feelings about him. NIGHT and Alkor had a checkered past, born out of a misunderstanding that had only slightly been rectified. Yet here she was, walking up to him and giving her blessing about taking arguably the single most important role in a group. The woman held out a weapon and he glanced over it absently for a moment. Witchfang had powerful potential for tripping up the opponent, but in terms of damage, it was a bit slower and less potent than some of the other weapons available. "Are you sure?" he asked, taking the blade in hand and testing its weight. It was much different than the cursed sword. It didn't have the same vile aura, instead, something more somber and subdued. Like a promise yet unkept. "Alright, I'll leave it to you, then," he said when she mentioned that she would take over if need be. "Lets work hard to keep everyone alive."

After that, he swiped his menu open and made the switch. The blade's scabbard appeared in place of the obsidian sheath at his hip, and he took a deep breath. Now he had an actual promise to keep.

It was about time that mess was taken care of. At least there won't be any nasty surprises from anything except the boss for the rest of the day. The problem, however, was time. He didn't know if he'd make it, but he'd sure as hell try.

Running through the labyrinth at top speed, with Krysta following from behind, Vigilon began making his way over to the boss door where the other frontliners hopefully were. After all he'd been through so far, what came next should hopefully be able to go without a hitch. He didn't know how much time he was taking as he nearly sprinted his way over, and neither did he care. He just wanted to make sure the fight would go smoothly...and there was only one way to find out.

Entering the area where the others were felt like breaking into a room. Chances are, he may have just made things awkward. "*gasp*, *pant, pant* I'm... *pant, pant* Sorry I'm... *pant* Sorry I'm late, *pant, pant*..."

Absolutely embarrassed, he simply looked around the room to see the situation. The area was open, and everyone was making final preparations. He'd need to get to finishing preparations himself, especially since his consumables have worn off. He spotted a table with a number of feasts on top of it. He would take his pick, but he only had five. Hopefully everyone would be able to make it out of this situation alive...

The only people he truly knew were...well, actually, only Krysta. He had some acquaintances, namely Mina, Jomei, Night, Nari(barely) Morningstar and Alkor, who'd helped him and Krysta take care of something before it could become everyone's problem...oh, and Freyd was there, too. He never really understood the guy, especially when he left Vigilon at the mercy of his first encounter with the Knights of Cinnabar. Thank God he had allies for the most recent issue they caused...

With the consumables consumed, and the salve applied, he now needed to group up with the party he was assigned to. He'd taken notes of what party he was with, at least, so he had a list of who his party members would be.

Consumed the following:

1 Tiger's Balm(Antidote III)

image.pngThe entrance to the floor boss area came in sight, or at least what looked to probably be the entrance to the floor boss area. Zandra had barely any information this time about the fight. Yes, it was her fault for beeing late to the meeting, she didnt argued with that. But the only information she had got is time and place where the frontliners would gather. She stopped while she was still a bit away to look who was present. There was plenty of faces she recognized so this would probably be a piece of cake. But there was someone that wasnt there that surprised her alot. Macradon wasnt there. ‘’Hmm, well well, probably have some other business to attend to.’’ she shrugged and headed to the entrance. That was when her most trusted friend in this deathgame came down and landed on her shoulder, a mighty king eagle. ‘’Hello Zita.’’ Zandra said and patted her on the head. Then, as Zandra spotted the person she was looking for she walked up to him. ‘’Heya Hirru.’’ she said as she walked up to him. ‘’I got some of your order, didnt got time to finish it all, sorry. Will get right to it after the battle.’’ she did some more swipes and it a bunch of crystals and potions was sent to Hirru.

She scratched her chin as she took a third look around. That was when it struck her, she wasnt sure what party she was in. ‘’Ehm, well this is kinda embarrassing.’’ she whispered to Zita. She started to look around if there was anyone looking like the one that would take command of this raid as she consumed a few potions and stuff.

It wasn't even a moment after he let those words pass his lips did the signs upon the door start to alight, and the golem would reanimate.  He nearly panicked, as it was far too early to start the fight and he thought he doomed everyone here.  The hunter was about ready to send up a barrier until the rest of the front lines had appeared, but something else happened.  The golem, it walked away.  For some reason, the hunter felt something from the creature's body movements.  It was as if the creature was depressed and unsure.  It must have been blocking the door for a reason.  Did.. was he..  Was Hirru feeling pity?  Towards a guardian?  The door burst open right then, causing a large gust of wind to nearly push them back a bit.  Enduring, the hunter could see into the room itself, or rather.. it was blindingly visible from where he stood.  He could only shake his head as Freyd passed by.

"I'm not sure if I did or not, to be fair."

He only figured it was more so when Morningstar, the guy he got to duel with and talk to during the Baldur's Valentines Tournament a long while ago, came up to him and Freyd.  It would seem that they were going to be teamed up together.  Not only him, but another two would join in after Freyd had set out a few feasts and morsels towards them.  Hirru sunk his shoulders as he figured Freyd would have done so, but NIGHT had already provided a large variety for the raid.   He could only watch as more and more would come to the raid.  Most of the people he knew that would definitely have been here were here, but there were a few that were new.  Most of them were in his party.

"This'll be interesting.."

When the sixth and final member had made themselves known to Freyd, the hunter would be greeted by an old acquaintance and fellow support player, Zandra.  She had come to deliver their order that the hunter had made some time ago, although it was not fully complete yet.  It was completely understandable though.  The crafting professions were crazy busy all of the time and Z was one of the highest known alchemists.

"Ah!  That's quite alright.  I figured it was gonna take some time to get all of both mass crystals and health potions.  Never know when we'll need them.  Thanks Zandra!"

It would be then that he would start to set up the instruments for their success.  Taking off his helm, his green hair would fall over the red headband that still kept the crescent moon symbol of the Dark Elven Royal Family.  The rest of his attire was still as flashy as he had it before.  Full plate with silver angelic impressions.  He would try to call over the rabble to the team that Freyd was gonna head.

"Alright, let's get these preparations underway.  I'm Jade Hunter, Hirru, and I'll be your healer and buffer for this raid.  If you don't know me well, you will soon enough."

He would pull a stern voice to address the five, including Freyd.  Soon a trade request would be sent to Elora, Katoka, Mina, and Morningstar.  In each trade there would be five mass healing crystals and five health potions.

"Accept those.  You'll need them going forward.  Mina, I don't have to tell you much, but I'll do so anyway.  The crystals must be used only if I can not heal you all to your prime, but they're quick usage will allow you to fight on.  The potions are when you can't do anything, for some reason, but have less than full health.  I give these to you because my attention will most likely be kept on Freyd, but.."

Hirru looked to the aloof Freyd.  Even though he knew that the man would be ready for it, he could not think that the role of tank should be someone that could garner hate effectively.  Who knows when one of these guys will accidentally gain more hate than him.

"..I feel it would be best to air on caution.  Keep your hate accumulation low, unless you want to become the surprise off tank.  If you do and can't handle the heat, remember to <<Switch>> with Freyd or myself.  I can tank a hit or two on my own before Freyd can get back attention.  With a few items here and there, and a barrier; we'll be surviving this yet."

He would then go on to strategies.  Looking back towards the entrance to the boss room and the large crystal cavern inside, he would have to squint to see it fairly without the light hurting his eyes.

"It looks like it's a little bright in there.  It may have the same effect on us as darkness does, so I will probably be using my Rally to up your accuracy every so often.  Just keep on the attack, and don't worry about anything else unless Freyd or myself call out to use those crystals.  Also, if you get a signal that your finisher is ready, call out for it.  If enough of you have it ready, I'll be able to boost your damage for an all out attack!."

There would be a moment where he would look to them and think to himself that he may have gone a little strong on the leadership part.  This was Freyd's group, not his.  He would sigh, ending the voice and returning to a softer tone.

"Sorry, if I come off as a hard ass.  I don't want us to have any faults in this fight.  It'll be a first for me to not have certain people here."

It really was going to be the first time that he didn't have Baldur there to work with his psyche issues.  Though, he had attests to certain things with Freyd, the man didn't know everything.  In fact, the only one here that knew anything was NIGHT.  That day in the garden..  He would snap himself out so he didn't look a fool.

Katoka listened intently to Hirru as he spoke. As a new person to raids she had reason not to to give him her full attention. A set of crystals and a set of potions, both to heal in case his attention was elsewhere. It seemed easy enough, but hopefully in the heat of battle things didn't get forgotten. A bit of stress and danger can be all it takes for one to forget the most important things. Once he was finished speaking the trade request window popped open before her and she accepted it without hesitation.

It wouldn't be long now before they would all be entering the towering doorway nearby to begin their assault. Whatever was waiting in the room beyond was sure to be difficult, but as long as they were all careful and stuck to the plan, they would all come out the other side just fine. The samurai looked to her comrades and nodded to them, "I look forward to fighting along side all of you."

and there were a few others who'd regarded her during that time period – crow had mentioned something about yuki, and all night could come up with was a solemn, "we both will. no matter where she is." there was also the matter of their last party member's arrival, too – night waved to zandra, hoping to catch her attention where their group gathered, and started to fish out some healing consumables for use.

of course, the pair were promptly interrupted with a voice that not only sent a shiver down her spine, but made her clench her teeth as she placed a name to it, night whipping around, expression incredulous, the corner of her mouth twitching. if she flushed, it wasn't voluntary. "sorry? – i don't remember you like that."

the player swallowed hard, hearing koga's ready check. and, with the same nerves as she did have for the guardian itself (though now directed elsewhere), night shot him a peace sign, before fading into nothingness.

Numbers ever so increasing

Crozeph took another look at them. No one knows if their number is enough to win this one. He wasn't expecting an easy fight, like how codes are bound not to work at first try. He took one good look at himself too, not even a piece of hard armor. It was his intent, he had the enhancements needed to be what his role is in the battlefield, a glass cannon, an oslo paper version of Noah's ark, a milk carton atomic bomb. He then proceeded to grab the mass healing crystals from Night. There was no need to ask her what the items are for, too dumb to ask for it. Hidden was with their team, what a cruel world. "Lighten up?" he said, looking at @Hiddenwho walked past him "this is probably the lightest clothes I could wear" he added.

footsteps, no reverberation yet the dread sound so loud

He pulled out the blade of Ereshkigal halfway, black amorphous liquid slowly drizzled- not downwards but upwards. Wrapping up starting from Crozeph's wrist and then finally reaching is neck. It might seemed like the katana had a life of its own, it once was a part of someone after all. He kicked up a piece of crystal scattered, might be a piece that got axed off by Night when she ventured and fought the place. He caught the piece mid-air and gazed at it, looking at how almost pure it looks when it's glowing then to the golem.

"All right, I want more of these Heisenberg" he told the golem before biting it and trying to swallow the crystal.

‘’Oh right.’’ Zandra said to herself as she remembered the party list she had quickly spotted during the short time she was present at the meeting. She was pretty sure she had seen NIGHT beeing in the same as hers, beeing their tank. As she spotted NIGHT she walked up to her. She saw her standing there talking to Alkor, giving him a sword it looked like. ‘’Hello there.’’ she said with friendly smile on her face. ‘’I came late to the meeting, so missed out on the planning. But I got placed in your guys team right? Havent been fighting for quite some time to be honest, really looking forward to get into the battle again.’

She also took a glance thru her battle ready inventory, she had been sure it was full, but it seemed she had an open spot. ‘’Oh nice, thank you NIGHT.’’ she said when taking 5 more mass heal crystals and placed them in her open inventory spot.

"Thanks, Hirru."

Morningstar felt a bit more comfortable after receiving the healing potions and crystals. With equipment like that, there was little way for him to come near critical health and not come out on top. After accepting the request, he listened intently to the Jade Hunter. He was not what Morningstar expected; he was much more talkative than he recalled from Baldur's party. Maybe it was circumstance. It was good to know he was teaming up with someone who had experience under their belt. Freyd was strong—probably among the strongest he had met—but even he had told the blonde that his history with boss raids was limited.

Hirru was right; if they could make it through the fight without any mistakes then they could consider it a success. Getting to the other side without any casualties was the goal. He looked over at the other two teams. Everyone looked like they were just about ready to begin. He watched as NIGHT vanished, hiding within the shadow of stealth.

The Soulcursed Blade pulsated at his waist as if it had a faint heartbeat. It was like it could feel the coming battle—it craved victory.

While the rest were still making preparations, the blonde decided to take a peak inside the boss room. She had to cover her eyes the moment she stepped through the open entrance, instinctively deactivating the Night Vision Mod she's used until now. With a sour expression she adverted her gaze for a few seconds then tried again to scan the area which they will face their next challenge. The katana at her hip seemed to judder in its saya as it seemed to react to the guardian's sorrow. Heck, even Ariel felt her own emotions tainted by the now moving entity.

"Easy now, you'll get your debut soon enough." she spoke softly, not sure if the weapon was emulating her thirst or the other way around. Nonetheless, the blonde was itching for a real fight. The kind one can only experience in this type of scenario. The life she made for herself on the 22nd floor was nice, a good community had formed inside her domain and an intricate intelligence network stretched out far outside of it. Despite all that, her heart yearned for the heat of battle that could only be found here, on the frontlines.

Seeing @Zandra here brought a smile to her somewhat troubled expression as she drew closer and greeted her sister-in-arms: "Glad to see you made it Z. I feel so much better knowing you're here too. Let's give'em one hell of a time !" she added with a sheepish smile.

From one dangerous scenario to another. The fact that the day of the raid was upon the players was enough, there was no necessity for a guild to conspire against their fellow players...but at least the matter was settled before it could become disastrous.

Now that the conspirators had been dealt with, it was time to return to the purpose of this trip, to assist in the raid, so that the battle would end in victory. She followed after Vigilon who at this point was hastily making his way over to the others. Krysta could only hope that neither of the two were too late, but even if that were the case, Krysta's heart was at peace for the actions she had taken earlier. Now, the raid itself was on the horizon. Surely, this would be more than an eventful day...

Vigilon had moved faster that Krysta had expected, to the point where he unintentionally left Krysta's sight. She could still hear his footsteps echoing, so she at least was still able to follow. When she reached the area, Vigilon was catching his breath, and the other players were finishing up preparations and were about to enter the crystal lit tunnel. There was a table set up, with some portions of feasts and consumables still remaining. Seeing that her previous consumable buffs have worn off, she would need to apply some more.

With the consumables dealt with, Krysta came to the realization that, aside from those who she had been around earlier on this day, she did not know anyone here, aside from a few acquaintances such as Jomei. Unfamiliar players in an unfamiliar battle. She felt like a stranger.

But she had a duty to do today, and she would do her best to see it through if at all possible...

"I'm Elora", the fellow emerald-haired woman greeted @Hirruin return. "Like you're hair by the way.", she felt inclined to compliment as she accepted the bundle of items from him. It wasn't all that common to come across players who shared their hair color, maybe because it clashed with clothes, or perhaps because it sort of resembled seaweed. She tried to keep her mind from exploring other explanations as the man continued to give instructions to the other members of their party. Elven ears rose and drooped relative to how much of it she was able decipher. This is a lot more than just running in and swinging. Not really used to needing to do so much preparation before --well, anything.

"Sounds good.", she responded as if she had understood any of it. "Stab the thing. Don't fuck around. Don't get killed." At least, she hoped that was an accurate summation.

Violet bowed respectfully to @Hirru, deffering any judgement on the situation to his experience. The healers and the tanks were the backbone of this operation, if they didn't exist... they all died. It was as simple as that, and completely irrefutable. If the boss aggroed onto any of the DPS people, they would be squashed almost instantly, the boss likely biting through their minimal-at-best Mitigation and defenses, and easily ripping them into polygons in a matter of seconds. "I'm putting my trust in you and @Freydto keep our team alive, Hirru." she said softly, accepting his trade request. "If you need help with healing at any point during the fight, let me know, and I'll happily help you out. I've got Field medic and Barrier, that way you don't have to constantly burn through your Energy. Stay safe, and lets kick this bosses ass!"

She gently bopped the older player on the shoulder, a wry grin visible on her face before she slid her mask into place. She made her way over to @Elora, nodding at the other girl. "Looking forward to working with you, Elora. Hit them hard, and don't be afraid. We're all here to help after all." Violet said calmly, giving the other girl a thumbs up. "Make our team proud, ok?" She lazily glanced over the rest of the people that were slowly arriving at the boss room, recognizing Vigilon, Lessa, and Alkor amongst some of the newer arrivals.

She just hoped that they could get this over with relatively fast, she just wanted to get back home, kick her feet up, and read a nice issue of the Aincrad times.

Accepting the Trade from Hirru!

The team was coming together and energized, but it didn't take much to sense the undercurrent of tension running between them and everyone else gathering in the chamber.  Veterans among them knew enough to be aware that you could never fully prepare for the pending battle.  Newer arrivals put on their bravest faces fearing their peers might judge them for inevitable doubts.  Smiling as he handed each whatever they requested or required, Freyd read each of their faces in turn to do what he did best: appraisals.  Even when set against digital flesh, nuances in tone and body language revealed much that carefully manicured words sought to conceal; dilation in the eyes, an unusual flush to the skin, or the nervous fidget of fingers on a weapon.

Mina's presence was unexpected, but always welcome.  He and Rai had rushed through preparations to upgrade her kit in the waning moments prior to the last raid and managed to get her geared up just in time. Her return was most welcome and her eagerness infectious.

"Glad to have you, Vi...er... Mina.  Which do you prefer, anyway?"  A simple joke to ease tension and forge familiarity.  They were friends and knew each other well enough that trust in battle would be no issue.  He merely nodded as she mentioned placing her trust in him and Hirru to keep the team alive.  It wasn't in his nature to do things to less than their fullest extents.  The irony was rich, given how often they all told him that he needed to relax.  That would be for later.  Always later.  "Looks like you're our official cheerleader," he added, chuckling at her zeal and energy.  They would likely need it, if things took a tenser turn.

He thought he saw Katoka clean her weapon at least three times in the time it took her to eat a single buff food.  To her credit, she had that same intensity of focus he'd come to expect from the aptly dubbed 'Cerulean Storm.'  She'd come a tremendously long way and stood among them now an an equal, ready and able to do her part.  Their recent forays into the wild had reinforced that sense of competence.  She was capable, and had already proven it to herself.  A genuine smile and nod of approval was the best acknowledgement he could offer her.  She would know how rarely he granted such things, and that the absence of words spoke volumes to his sincerity.

'Oh, thank goodness,' he told himself, stress bleeding from his shoulders as Hirru took it upon himself to deliver the basic pep speech and marching orders.  Freyd had been dreading having to deliver the same himself.  He could.  In fact he had on many previous occasions, but doing so for the benefit of guildmates or agents of O&I carried a more familiar feel.  Today's event was a different matter altogether.  The symbol of the elven court's on Hirru's bandana carried special meaning for them both, but was best left unspoken in the moment.  To Freyd, its baring was a statement of principle, for which Hirru had become renown.  Where others might recoil, he embraced it, having once heard the tale from Hirru himself.  He welcomed the man's conscience among them, especially to temper his own harsher pragmatism.

"I'll do my best," he offered at Hirru's suggestion to mitigate his hate, knowing full well he'd piss off whatever they were fighting to the fullest of his natural talents.  He still wasn't very good at 'making mostly nice.' The offer was gracious and kind, even tactically sound, but Freyd had spent too long in the dark alone relying on only himself.  It wasn't within easy reach for him to share such a burden, once accepted.

Morningstar stood still and silent, by comparison, brief thanks spoken with firm ferocity confirming what Freyd already knew about the man.  Serious and competent in battle, the Lightbringer was adaptable and capable in equal measure.  He'd tested that mettle in Ladonia and found it strong.  The man's eyes kept drifting to the weapon at his waist, likely curious to see what the unproven blade could do.  He wondered that himself, sparing a moment to glance at the new wraps around his hands, then clenching them into fists, the fabric creaking in response.  Pressing fist to open palm, a quick and subtle bow was made to bolster his companion, confirming that they would both prove their worth in coming battle.

Lastly, Elora placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder, a bit of awkward, playful banter gracing her grand new gear and retrofit appearance.  Where others might see mere upgrades, Freyd saw the blooming of her inner self.  He knew her to be so much more than what she presented to the world, though bits of it were finally starting to eek out.  Pride followed, at her growing sense of self-worth and for the same at the rest who had gathered to fight at his side.  There would be no major speeches, like Baldur might have given.  That simply wasn't his style.  Looking upon each in turn, Freyd sensed their eagerness and turmoil alike.  The same sensations fluxed within him as well, though he was perhaps better practiced at hiding it.  Maybe now was no longer the time.  Maybe, just maybe, this was the moment to show just a little bit of humanity and offer a reminder to himself and the others.  Suppressing a sigh, he pulled back his cowl and let the world see him plainly.  A black mop of unruly hair partially concealed blue eyes set against a plain and unremarkable face, save perhaps an easing of its usual intensity.

"Thank you, each of you, for being here today.  It speaks volumes to your character and commitment to those who have come before us.  And to your fears and doubts, because we all have them, I can offer this: look beside you and see.  These," he paused to let the moment sink in, "are the real reasons why we fight."

Taking Elora's hand from his shoulder, he pulled her close and pressed his forehead to hers. Forcing himself to push back against his instincts, he resolved to declare that he was more than just the cold and calculating killing machine so many took him to be. "Let them see," he told himself as much as asking his beloved, and pressed his lips to hers.

@Freyd's affectionate gesture had caught Elora very off guard. A nervous flittering of her heart was quickly subsided as she resolved to hold him and reciprocate the kiss. The circumstances of this moment manifested an unusual equilibrium between two conflicting feelings -- a deep sense of contentment and an underlying terror that all of it could be destroyed in an instant. Each seemed to ebb and flow within her like waves cresting against a shoreline. Trembling hands anchored into his back, conserving only a few precious seconds before a fated release. Meeting his cerulean eyes, Róisín gave a resolute nod. Even if this goes to shit -- I can finally fight alongside you. No more wasting time, waiting for you to return. Her sluggish posture straightened as body and spear reoriented into an offensive stance. "I've got your back.", she declared to him and to the rest of their team.
